Larry Donald and the myth of the Giant

    Exposed:

I had Valuev winning 3 rounds, and I felt generous. Donald out fought, out foxed, and out punched the lumbering giant.

This was one of the worst decisions of the year.

Valuev shouldn't be fighting for a title, but if Ruiz does go to Germany, look for the possibility of one of the worst fights ever. Ruiz would look to clinch, and Valuev would hit him on the back of the head. If it's in Germany, Valuev will be awareded a BS TKO win.

A "title fight" like this will do no good for the Heavyweight division.

good post dude i heart this was a dodgy decision.

seems the valuev hype has just been dealt with, i must admit i was getting dragged in as well.

feel sorry for donald hopefully this wont harm his career and he can go on to consolidate on a good perfromaince.

rematch in the states i say..

What myth? Valuev is a work in progress. Donald was his biggest test yet. Donald is a first rate heavy with good skills and some size and his power cannot be discounted against Valuev who has only recently been able to upgrade his competition.

Valuev has learned a lot from this fight. Donald has learned nothing because he's already experienced against top fighters and will never fight another giant again. I don't give Ruiz much of a chance. He's slower, has low punch output, and his grab game is poorly suited against a guy too big and powerful to grab on to. I'd like to see Donald get a shot against Byrd or Brewster who he matches up best against. I think he could make Toney look bad too.

"Valuev is a work in progress"

9 years into his pro career, & he's still a "work in progress" ?
When will he be fighting at world class level, 16 years in ?

Face it....he has no real aptitude for the game. If he has mediocre skills now, 9 years after he started, he'll have mediocre skills 9 years form now.
ALL he has is his size. That will only get him so far.

....Basically, any title fight involving John Ruiz does no good for the heavyweight division.

I agree, but I also think that Valuev can beat a lot of heavies on pure size alone. Donald is a slick, slick boxer and the worst opponnent that the giant can have. Valuev kills Ruiz!

Do you agree that Valuev lost this fight? You didn't seem to disagree in my thread about the Donald/Valuev fight.

Donald had the right idea. He looked as though he was fighting in close and digging body shots constantly. That is a good way to get a 7 footer to bow further down and then you can bury shots to his temple and chin. Valuev looks like a ****ing scrub.

yeah, the thing with a big giant like that...he probably cannot fight for **** on the inside...his strength comes from giving him room to throw his strong punches...if you get inside, they just hold on not knowing what to do and wait to have room again...that is why Ruiz may have success...
