Ortiz is the Bad Guy/"Heel" and Floyd is the Good Guy?

It seems that the roles are set:

Victor Ortiz will play the bad guy, thug, dis-respectful, spoiled rotten kid?

And Floyd will be playing the respected "gentleman", goodwill ambassador, and senior good guy?

If true, I think that it is truly pathetic how Golden Boy Promotions and Floyd Mayweather are turning boxing into professional wrestling. Of course, Ortiz just plays along. What else can he do?

I think that their agenda is obvious: To turn Mayweather into a good guy by the time they negotiate with the REAL GOOD GUY Pacquiao at the end of this year.

I am not fooled. Are you?

I don't see the bad guy/good guy appeal in this fight. I just see two guys showing a lot of respect for eachother without the gay smiling stare downs, multiple hand shaking, and incessant smiling for the cameras.

It would be interesting if Vic musters up the will to do a bit of trash talk as the multi-city promos get under way.

well, floyd is certainly more reserved this time around.

maybe because he already has the confidence and the accomplishments behind him and doesn't really need to prove himself for this particular fight, whereas Ortiz has to puff himself up to SEEM like a significant threat.

don't get me wrong though. i consider this a great fight in that Ortiz will most likely give floyd a good workout and is a perfect preparation for the real thing, Manny.

well, that's my take on it.

I’m not sure what is going on there? Was Floyd calm and respectful because his kids where there? Or because he wants to clean up his image or maybe he has matured? Who knows but I doubt you will see a respectful calm Floyd during 24/7. I think Floyd will use that platform to criticize Bob Arum and Pac and hype that fight.

I noticed the same thing. The usually reserved Ortiz, the "yes sir, no sir, thank you sir", polite smiley guy is all up in Mayweathers face pushing and talking tough, while Floyd, the usually agressive trash talker, is remaining cool and calm. Even with the media, Ortiz has been more of the smart ass and Floyd seems to be really, really keeping himself level headed.

I'm actually glad that Victor is coming out of his shell, whether it's an act or not, I would much rather see that then see the guys smiling and joking around with each other like the Pac-Clottey or Pac-Mosely pre fight lead up.

I really think Mayweather is trying to change his image for the public with his upcoming abuse and violence cases pending. He is staying surprisingly cool headed, so props to him for that, because I know that's hard for him when it comes to the media questions.

It is interesting though to hear Mayweather answering so many questions that people have had for so long. One thing he said in one of his interviews (here on BS) was, 'How could I be this violent thug I'm being portrayed as, when I didn't even get involved in the "mellay" in the Judah fight. When all hell broke loose in the ring due to the low blow, I just stood there and remained calm through all of it'. Wow - that's a bit of a stretch but whatever. He also said that the Josie Harris incident couldn't have possibly takin place because he hasn't seen any video of it happening. Floyds reasoning never ceases to amaze me. He kinda makes me think of the Shaggy song, "It Wasn't Me" LOL. Floyd may or may not be guilty for the Harris incident but come on, like as if there would be a constant video feed on Josie Harris's living room couch at 2:00a.m. in morning. With that being said, since he already has 3 of his 4 kids living with him (according to him), my guess is that case is already being dropped. No way Harris would let the kids live with him again if she was still taking this to court....

^^^Agreed, you really can't knock him for playing his cards correctly, he has to appear gentlemanlike, to appease the courts, I guess. That would be my first take. Another reason could be, that he's just tired, he's hit a point in his life spurred on by age or maybe recent events, where he's just tired of acting like someone he's not - maybe that tough guy, trash talker was all for show, and this is the "real" or closer to the real Mayweather (or maybe a blend of both reasons). I don't wanna look too far into it, cause I really don't care, to be "fooled" by anything, I see a good fight on paper, and I hope it turns out to be a good scrap.

However, I'm not sure how premeditated it is on Ortiz' part though - he seems like he's in his own world. He started talking like this pre-Berto, he won, why change something when it worked...atleast that's how he might look at it and he has that momentum to continue to do so.
