Vladimir Nabokov once said, "I think like a genius, I write like a distinguished author, and I speak like a child." I think you could say something of the sort about Lennox Lewis. In the ring, he was pretty brilliant -- but in the commentary booth he is such an idiot you'd swear he'd never watched boxing.

It took Wlad a few rounds to get the jab working, but when he did, it was just a matter of time. I was there and will never forget the "thud" of Brock's body hitting the canvas in MSG.

That's cool that you were there! It seems such a long time since we thought an opponent of Wladimir had a real chance of taking him down.

I remember Wladimir throwing jabs with just his arm for a few rounds, the way he'd had to fight against Byrd because Byrd was so quick. But then he started landing jabs he was stepping into. Between rounds, his corner told Brock to "catch his jab!", and the next round was awful for him -- I was laughing thinking that the corner meant to catch the jabs with your glove, not your face. :-D

Yeah, people forget now how highly Brock "the boxing banker" was regarded at the time. He was supposed to be the next big US HW. But Wlad ended that dream.

Wlad has a way of ending careers: Brock, Sultan Ibragimov ..... David Haye?

Even though the Klitschko/Haye fight was signed before the Sturm/Macklin decision, i get what Lennox is saying. However he must of not seen all the robberies in the Americas lately. Whether its Alexander getting Freebies in St Louis or Pascal getting a gift in Canada the first time vs Hopkins or even Juan Diaz getting the Nod against Paulie in Houston, Judges seem to *** it up no matter what country your fighting in. All i can say is welcome to the World of Mexican fighters. Hell, Salido stopped JuanMa but still has to go to pansy ass P.R. to beat him again. Until Boxing changes the rules to fight till someone quits, bad scorecards will always happen...

Brock caught a steelhammer right to the chin that effectively ended his boxing career, though he fought once or twice after that.

I thought Brock finished up with a pretty good record. Apart from his loss the WK I think he lost only 1 or 2 more.

I also believe that Brock was Klitschko's most dificult fight,. As I recall, heavy thud notwithstanding, for the first 4 rounds Klitschko was hardly able to hit him as he was very successfully evading Klitschko's left and right hands by bending over and they were sliding across his back. Of course as I knew, it was only a matter of time, and so it turned out to be.

He's the opposite of Vladimir Nabakov in everything except speaking. There they mesh perfectly. For cliches, age 6 mentality, glaringly obvious, repetitive crap, nobody can beat Lewis.

And there was nothing brilliant about him in the ring, except his brilliant way of grabbing his opponent by the back of the neck and pulling his face down to meet his, Lewis' uppercut, for a KD/KO a la Michael Grant, or the way he was trying it with V Klitschko. otherwise he was a boring and pedestrian as anyone you can think of. Safety first was his style, even with overmatched novice Croatians.

I don't know why he was never DQ'd. He and Hopkins have much in common as far as expert fouling is concerned.

Again Lennox is talking about when he fought Tyson.....says it's his most satisfying win......idiot! He should be ashamed of pretending that he fought the real Mike Tyson.

The Haye side has been moaning about referees and judges for two years now. It seems plain he's considering the fight plan he used against Valuev -- run and run, and hope a few weak punches per round is enough for a decision.

Speaking of the Valuev fight -- Haye went into his "back yard", didn't knock him out, didn't even dominate, and still won the decision. So the Hayeboys don't have a leg to stand on. Certainly there is no shortage of terrible decisions in the history of title fights, but they're the exception, not the rule.

If Haye tries the Eddie Chambers fight plan, he's going to be on the end of a 120-108 decision, or a late-round KO. He could try to keep Wladimir backing up, as Calvin Brock tried, with some success. (I had that fight either 3-3 or 4-2 for Wladimir through 6; it was pretty harsh of the judges to give only one round to Brock.) Brock was getting shots at Wladimir, but didn't have the variety to make it effective, nor the stamina to do it all fight.

I just hope Haye comes to fight, not just to duck and cover and run and collect a fat paycheque he doesn't deserve.

You know ... I caught a lot of **** from losers on this site because I wrote about what Lewis just admitted. Tyson was in prison and had no business coming out to face an active champion who was only looking for big names to fill out his resume. Mike was out at Bentley's when he was supposed to be training for fights after he got released.

If Lewis would have fought Tyson when Tyson had people who still cared about him around him Lewis would have been stargazing on his back again. Of course people like Holyfield and Lewis got credit for beating Tyson, but they NEVER beat IRON MIKE.

I hope Haye pulls a Lamon Brewster and upsets Wlad. I don't even like Haye, but I hate the Klitschko brothers. The HW division is a joke. Its ripe with giants who have little boxing skills. The idea was to give people a show when Tyson left, but it wound up being a freakin' sideshow.
