  • Comments Thread For: WBA: Sanctioning Bodies Voted on Haye-Klitschko Ref

WBA heavyweight champion David Haye and his team have protested over Gino Rodriguez being the referee for Saturday's unification with IBO/WBO/IBF champion Wladimir Klitschko in Hamburg, Germany. They were upset because Rodriguez worked several of Wladimir's fights in the past. Gilberto Mendoza, vice-president of the WBA, said his sanctioning body has no issue with Rodriguez being the referee of choice. Because the fight is a unification, the sanctioning bodies took a vote and Gino Rodriguez was the end result.

is it resolved though, 2nd paragraph:

We don´t have any objections on the Klitschko vs. Haye referee Genaro "Gino" Rodriguez. We trust and believe in [his] professionalism and capacity. But Haye´s camp feels uncomfortable because he worked in Wladimir´s previous fights. It is our duty to hear and support WBA champion

does that mean they are backing Haye?

So can we finally stop this "Wlad picked the referee" nonsense now?

You should have tried reading to the end of the paragraph:
Since Klitschko vs. Haye is a heavyweight unification title match, the sanctioning bodies took a vote on the referee, resulting in Gino Rodriguez," Mendoza said.

So they voted in favour of keeping Rodriguez as the ref.

what he says is that haye is talking out of his ass again. it's a unification so they /the wba/ can't have 100% control over the referee.

And are IBF and WBO backing Wlad? A vote is no good if one side has twice the votes as the other. Still Wlad has won his fight due to his skills and the flaws in his opponent's, so his previous refs shouldn't be no goes. Only if the ref does ruin the fight i know IBF and WBO are to blame, what good does that do me?

So they voted in favour of keeping Rodriguez as the ref.
was that vote before or after the complaint? It doesnt say, the article says the decision to appoint the referee was taken by vote (which to me implies it was before the complaint by Haye's team)

It says they are supporting Haye. So, is the issue resovled or not?

In other words the WBA are telling Haye, their own Champion, to P*** Off!. I hate using vulgar language even in asterisks but this matter requires it.

No i read it that they are cognisant of the concerns of their Champion, however they all took a vote and the result was Rodriguez, the guy that Haye doesn't want. In other words they are saying, "....sorry, too bad, but that's the way it is done, legally and according to the rules and customs....". A perfect "brush off".

Of course this will give Haye the excuse he has been looking for to explain how he was obliterated by Klitschko. I'd bet he wouldn't have the ref changed even if it was offered, and another thing, Haye well knows the regulations pertaining to chosing refs for unification fights, so this "complaint" was artificially induced to give him his "excuse".

He already knew the answer before he "complained".
