Cotto/Margo money split.

Not that much of a stretch. In 2008, if he had beaten Margarito, he would have had wins over Margarito,Mosley, Judah, Quintana, and Malignaggi. Manny hadn't even fought Oscar yet and was coming off a controversial decision over JMM. Floyd was retired. Roy Jones had already lost 3 times.

I think if Cotto convincingly beat Margarito, he and Joe Calzaghe would have been the 2 guys in contention for the best p4p in the world.

Not to mention Cotto would have been the one fighting DLH and not Pacquiao. Then you look at the guys PAC beat after that and it's guys that Cotto already beat or should have beat.

Either way he got his ass kicked and even if he was p4p king for a day, I don't think it would have lasted long. People would have been pushing for a Mosley rematch and that's a fight I don't see Cotto winning 5/5 times. I also don't see Cotto beating Mayweather even when Cotto was in his prime.

He's had a decent career with lots of paydays, so it didn't turn out too bad in the end.

Totally agree it wouldn't have lasted long. However, him beating Margarito would have significantly changed boxing history. Who knows how things play out. I don't see him as ever being as good as Manny or Floyd, but he would have been the p4p torchbearer for a year.

LOL at this. Cotto has and will always be a bigger name, have a bigger fan base, and always make more money than Margarito. Add the fact that Margarito is a cheater and pretty much black balled from the sport and it being in NYC, Margarito should be HAPPY he is getting 2 million dollars.

Cotto getting 5/7 million means he is still a big draw in the sport. Probably third after the top two. 2m for Margo is also far from being considered a done fighter. Whoever wins this bout will be a good match and good money for any formidable fighter 160lbs. and below.
Any suggestions?
