It was Amir "King" Khan's official coming out party. We all knew he was destined for greatness when he lit up the Olympics in Athens as just a lad barely removed from school. His style, his success and aura was reminiscent of the way Sugar Ray Leonard and Roy Jones stole the show during their respective runs in the Olympics

This was the fight that validated Amir "King" Khan as an elite, world class athlete. He was up against a modern great, coming off of two victories(neither went the distance,by the way).Very few actually expected Amir Khan to pull of the victory. They said that he was already a shot fighter, having engaged in brutal battles with the likes of Michael Gomez and Willie Limond and seemingly looked a shell of the fighter that once dazzled the entire world in his upset loss(they said it's the greatest sporting upset in history) to the devestating knockout artists in Breidis "Kid Dynamite" Prescott.

And having already taken advantage of the obviously shot and used-up Naseem Hamed a couple of years earlier,Barrera was looking to add another faded(as Khan was perceived to be) name to his resume.Unfortunately for him, though,he was in there with a man who had dramatically improved in the last six months, and a man who was just hitting his peak.

What transpired next was one of the most beautiful, artistic, yet bloody and brutal boxing matches that I've ever witnessed. It was clear that,as great as he was, that Marco could not deal with the incredible speed, volume, power and precision of the new and improved Amir Khan.He battered and outboxed the thoroughly outclassed the Mexican great in one of the greatest mismatches in recent history.

This was the night that Amir Khan was accepted by the Mexican public as one of their own,and this was the night the entire world learned that Amir Khan just may be..............the greatest fighter of his generation. That night - I'm not convinced that anybody could have defeated Amir Khan.It was his night, his career defining fight - he was not going to be denied.
