We were able to talk with Vitali only a day after, when he returned to Los Angeles, to resume training at «LaBrea Boxing Academy», where he will continue his training for the upcoming fight against Hasim Rahman, which takes place on November 12, in Las Vegas.

What do you think of Wladimir’s fight?
It was very important fight for Wladimir, where he had to win. Mistakes were made that led to those knockdowns. But, nevertheless in this fight Wladimir has shown strong character, which led him to the victory, even though many experts predicted Samuel’s victory.

Vitali, do you think all knockdowns were truly knockdowns?
Referee let both fighters box practically not interrupting their fight, except for those moments when it was necessary to step in. Two of three knockdowns were accomplished by illegal hits to the back of Wladimir’s head. But overlooking Samuel’s dirty style, Wladimir was much more technical than Peter, and statistic of punches speaks for itself.

It was part of Wladimir’s strategy in this fight since Samuel Peter is very dangerous. Therefore Wladimir clinched to deprive Peter of his advantage.

Knockout, as I have spoken many times can’t be planed. Wladimir was ready to fight all twelve rounds. If he had a chance to knock Peter out he would have done so. However those punched that landed showed that Peter possesses a great ability to withstand strong punches.

peter is known as a rabbit puncher to anyone who follows the sport. it wasn't anything new. wladimir and manny had studied tapes of peter and had put together a clinch designed to trap your opponent off at the elbow to prevent his infamous looping rabbit punches. wlad managed to be successfull at times, and not so successfull at times. this is why wlad, after the fight, says he definitely needs to work on some things because peter got a few too many rabbit punches in.

peter also has a habit of punching off the clinches. which is borderline illegal because fighters are required to take a step back after the ref breaks em up.

i'd like to see peter vs toney myself. toney like close range fighting, and peter likes throwing rabbit punches in clinches. this sounds interesting to me.
