Comments Thread For: Fernando Montiel is Looking For a Donaire Rematch

Former three division champion Fernando Montiel is looking for a fourth world title. He made his official super bantamweight debut on Saturday in Culiacan, Mexico, and stopped former champion Nehomar Cermeno within three rounds of action. The boxer from Venezuela refused to come out for the third round. Montiel was very nervous about the fight, because it was his first bout since the February knockout loss to Nonito Donaire. Montiel hopes to capture a world title, and then to secure a rematch with Donaire.

I wish Nonito had half the heart Montiel does because Donaire would be an atg if he had that mentality.

With that said, I'd much rather see Montiel face Mijares at 118 or Marquez at 122, with both bouts being held in Mexico.

But scratch that.......the most exciting and best fight for Montiel right now is Darchinyan at 118. That is the best fight that can be made at 118...even better than Agbecko vs Donaire, due to all the tension between Vic and Fernando.

Why would anyone other than hardcore Montiel fans want to watch this rematch? Props to Montiel for wanting to avenge his loss but as of right now no thanks.....edit If Montiel fights and beats the winner of Agbeko Mares i would say he earned it even though i see the same result.

2 rounds were not enough. Montiel needs to get another good victory under him to help his confidence. He suffered a brutal KO against Donaire.

I remember Juan Lopez fighting Figueroa and Medina instead of giving Ponce De Leon a rematch because "no one wants to see teh rematch", who teh feck wanted to see him in there with Figueroa and Medina? Rematch makes more sense than a lot of other match ups.

I see the same outcome. Montiel isn't on the level. Nonito is an elite. Montiel is just not on the level with Donaire.

Dude needs to fight again, like someone said 2 rounds aren't enough, and he even admitted he was still nervous, so imagine how he'd really feel in the ring again with Donaire ..

he damn near got put in a coffin with that KO and was lucky he even got a count, because i thought he didnt deserve one i thought he could have seriously got hurt had Donaire landed another shot like that again but Donaire hit him once and the ref stopped it but i thought it was insane to even let him attempt to keep going, dude was swat'n at flies while on the ground.
