Middleweight contender Matthew Macklin is ready for a second opportunity to face WBA champion Felix Sturm. On Saturday in Cologne, Germany, Macklin lost a controversial twelve round split decision to the champion. There were two scores of 116-112 for Sturm, and a score of 115-113 for Macklin. The fan favorite of England and Ireland, said the German television broadcasters had him winning the fight by four points.

Make it happen. He deserves it.

The only problem for Macklin is that Sturm seemed off that night. While it looked like Macklin gave it his all, it didn't look like Sturm did. In a rematch, I see Sturm beating Macklin decisively if he actually puts in the effort this time.

rewatching it now through sober eyes, 3 rds in and i have a different score than last time already
3-0 Macklin instead of 2-1. More of Macklin's punches were getting through the guard than i thought

Can Macklin repeat or even improve on his heroics?

I disagree that Sturm didn't bring his all to the fight, he just had an inspired guy who wouldn't say "die" in front of him - I thought Sturm showed some impressive stoicism and fortitude, although it's clear he's a pretty average MW titlist in terms of where he can go and what caliber of MW he can be expected to beat.

This is the feeling i got. Sturm would probably win by an even wider margin in the rematch. Macklin put in his best work last night and gave it his all whereas Sturm fought at possibly the worst of his ability.

thats the truth right there -rhodes showed no heart whatsoever. looked like he had been given a 'patsy' bonus from HBO/GBP to make Saul look good.

              This
I honestly thought Sturm looked gone in the first few rounds... he had the look of a guy who had just got up from 3 knockdowns.

In a rematch I like Sturm. Macklin put in an inspired performance but I see Sturm rectifying the matter.

It's honourable of Sturm to offer a rematch considering he could easily chose not to.

I'd like to see a rematch so make it happen.
