Absolutely horrible news, but at least he's at peace now. Nick Charles, Definition of class act. He was the sick one, but was comforting everyone else. The world has lost a great man, cut from a different cloth than most.

I had no idea that he was 64. I figured he was in his late 40s in the last few years when he was on Showtime.

Charles obviously took care of himself. It's been said many times before, but you never know when your time is up, when you're going to be dealt aces and eights. In Charles' case, he had the misfortune of knowing that he'd been dealt the dead man's hand. What a brave, strong individual to see into that crystal ball, to know your days are numbered, and to keep your resolve.

No matter who you are, one day, the grim reaper, the bad man, the mean-ass Patrol Boy will come to collect. If you live long enough, he might pay you a visit or two to remind you that your days here are numbered. Eventually, that Bad Lieutenant shows up and takes you away for good.

Try to enjoy life while you can. Nick Charles did. He lived big, tasted life, won at life, and now he's retired from life. If there's any kind of afterlife, it's residents are lucky to gain such a fine gentleman.

Our prayers are with Cory and Giovanna on the passing of our friend Nick Charles. A gentleman in every sense of the word, and a credit to the sport of boxing. The NABF and Ring 8 NY has lost a dear friend.
