Chavez has an optional defense scheduled, likely against Peter Manfredo Jr., on the tentative date of November 19. Martinez faces undefeated Darren Barker on October 1.

That's what happens when you win a title. you have to fight more so than before. what has boxing turned into when professional fighters need to continue to keep fighting weak opponents before fighting a legit one? So what if Martinez wants to fight Chavez Jr. Dude is a champion now. Time for Chavez to step up win or lose.
