Pacquiao fights are becoming incredibly boring to watch (by Chris Williams)

Pacquiao’s fights are becoming incredibly boring to watch
    By Chris Williams:

In a recent article at The Ring, one particularly brilliant writer was quick enough to observe that Manny Pacquiao’s fights are becoming ever more dull each time out in the past four fights and he feels that this could hurt Pacquiao.

I think I have to agree with that. Pacquiao’s last four fights have come against Shane Mosley, Antonio Margarito, Joshua Clottey, and Miguel Cotto.

I’m not even going into the mismatches against Ricky Hatton and Oscar De La Hoya. Those weren’t interesting fights to watch because of how one-sided they were, and while some people thought that those fights were going to be competitive ones going in, I wasn’t one of them.

I knew De La Hoya was a part time fighter who was losing more than he was winning by the time he fought Pacquiao. And it only took one look at how much weight that De La Hoya had taken off to fight Pacquiao at their agreed upon weight of 147 to know that De La Hoya had taken off too much weight and was going to be too weak to fight.

And I never saw Hatton as being a worthy opponent. He had been ballooning up in weight in between fights, reportedly not taking care of his body, and he had already been knocked out by Floyd Mayweather Jr. My point it none of these fighters were competitive or even slightly interesting to watch. I don’t think it was fun watching Pacquiao beat up Clottey and Margarito, did you?

Compare those fights with someone like Marcos Maidana who brings excitement to each and every fight he takes, and there’s no comparison.

Pacquiao’s fights aren’t interesting to watch and I personally don’t feel that they’re worthy of the $50+ price tag for them.

I think Pacquiao could be worth that if he at least fought someone that would give him a good fight like Sergio Martinez, Andre Berto, Victor Ortiz or Timothy Bradley.

Ortiz and Martinez would be PPV worthy fights in my view. I would pay to see Pacquiao fight those guys and I think it would be good for his career. It would be a heck of a lot better than to see Pacquiao beating up on old guys or ones that have been coming off of losses.

Instead of matching Pacquiao against guys like Mosley simply because of his name value and his ability to make more money, Pacquiao handlers should be thinking in terms of giving the buying public a better product, don’t you think?

You can only set up so many mismatches before you start turning off the public. I know if I was serving up a product that I knew wasn’t the best for my customers, I wouldn’t expect them to keep coming back.

This is a tough economy and you have to produce. You can’t serve slop and and expect people to gladly pay $50+ each time without getting diminishing returns.

I think it’s bad business not only for Pacquiao but for boxing as a whole, since he’s considered to be the top fighter right now in the sport.

I'm sorry but anyone claiming they thought DLH was going to get beat down that one sided is a lying idiot.

The reason they're boring is cause they have been FIXED FIGHTS.

        Pac-Mosley was FIXED.
        Pac-Margarito was FIXED.
        Pac-Clottey was FIXED.

        and Pac-DelaHoya was FIXED too.

Only Brits felt Hatton had a chance VS Floyd at 147, so I expected him to get knocked out.

Cotto was a good fight and so was Marg.

In fact the Hatton fight was quite fun to watch too.

Even the Oscar fight had good moments.
Clottey was boring, but not because of Pac.

            This writer is a hater.

He should say Floyd vs jmm and hatton was crap too!

the reason he sells over a million is because Pac's 2 promoters (Arum, and DelaHoya) have done a good job of brainwashing the public (mostly the vast Asian market worldwide) into thinking that Pac is "da best", by helping Pac avoid being caught using Steroids, and helping Pac duck many tough fighters, and helping Pac cherrypick easy "shot" has-beens, and helping Pac make opponents weigh-drain, etc.

Pac is a CHEATER that uses Steroids, and many other cheating tactics.

Pac is a Fake Legend that uses EPO Steroids, HGH, A-Side Meth (Agimat) and other PED's.

Pac is also a Big COWARD that has ducked many tough challenges and avoided Humberto Soto, Juan Diaz, valero, Guzman and so many others.

Pac is also a coward for demanding catchweights to weight-drain his opponents, so that they're weak before they step in the ring.

Pac is also a coward for handpicking Old Faded has-beens.
Pac's last 10 opponents were mostly in their mid to late 30's.
Pac does not fight fighters in their 20's cause Pac is a chicken.

Pac is also a FAKE "champion" cause Pac has had 4 FIXED FIGHTS at 147lbs cause Pac cant compete well at 147lbs.

              1.) Pac-DelaHoya was FIXED
              2.) Pac-Clottey was FIXED
              3.) Pac-Margarito was FIXED
              4.) Pac-Mosley was FIXED

(Pac-Cotto was NOT Fixed, but Pac made Cotto weight-drain 2 pounds extra to 145lbs, and besides, pac was on steroids for that fight, which is why the rematch fell through, cause Cotto demanded that Pac be tested for steroids before the rematch)

all FIXED FIGHTS by Pac's co-promoters (Arum, and DelaHoya) because Pac cant compete with the 147lbers, and because Pac generates over $100 Million worldwide, mostly from the vast Asian market (that dont know jack-*****t about boxing), so Pac gets a "free-pass" with all his cheatings, duckings, and now FIXED FIGHTS.

Pac is the biggest Fraud, the biggest Hype-Job in the History of Boxing.
which is why Arum & DelaHoya keep brainwashing the public and Asian Market into buying a scam (Pacquiao).

Pac is the Most Overrated/OverHyped Boxer in the History of Boxing.

Manny remains the most exciting fighter in boxing, especially at the world class level.
You can't blame him for Mosley going into survival mode, they all have a plan til they get hit!

some points are very valid.....very good...

however, we could also look at some things the other way.....

the beauty of boxing is you never know when the fight will really end...round 1? round 4? or will it go the 12 round distance....

also, there is no guarantee that the favorites will always win.....upsets abound...

remember that odlh, sans the age and weight loss etc, was still a heavy favorite over pac

and there is no knowing really HOW the fight will end.....as fighters/trainers made adjustments as part of their game plan.....remember ali vs foreman? odlh vs pac etc

styles make fight...a toe to toe will make people happy...a running game not likely?

yes, age and wear and tear also might have caught up with a fighter...

understandably, fans and critics will not be happy or contented when their expected fight outcomes do not materialize..
