  • What Do Judges - Judge?

What is it that judges are looking at when judging a fight?

It's obviously not just a case of who hit the other fighter more like in the Olympics. What as an overview are the collective aspects?

I hear a lot about backpedaling and staying out of range not being liked by judges, how true is this.

Alot of fights are fixed to the hometown opponent (Kotelnik - Alexander).

Judges scorecards are given to them by the Promoters.

Alot of Judges are senile old douchebags who couldnt drive a car muchless judge a fight where you need quick eyes to see whats going on.

They reward Alexander for throwing 1000 AIR Punches that dont land but dont reward Zbik for 900 Punches that do land.

The sad fact is that these senile old bastards never get fired or disciplined, look at that Benoit judge who screwed Sexy Martinez, dude is still judging and STILL giving out score cards that are MIRROR OPPOSITES of the other 2 judges. You would think the commision will not let him judge? Nope, judge away you senile old fart.

More Boxers careers have been ruined by Judges than injuries/knock outs/opponents.

We need to revamp Boxing Judges around the world, we need a central authority with STRICT Testing Mandates and serious penalties for screwring up a fight. If you screw up a fight then you are fired and sued in some cases.

Plus they should have yearly review's where the Judges are tested.

Alot of these dirtbags have never been trained and dont even know what to look for, they just doing what they been doing for the last 30 years.

Its a freaking joke, theres no accountability with judging, no testing, no nothing. Big Joke.

Attend some Amateur/Pro shows that arent big name fighters. You will see some HORRIBLE Judging where lots of young fighters get ruined before they are given a chance because the judges are playing with their phone or chatting with the crowd.

I think im going to setup a website where I post the names / address / photos of Judges who screw up and dont get punished, maybe some loco will take his anger by going to the Judges house and giving him a 10 count, bam bam bam.

does it matter? This is what a typical judge panel consists of:

You can all debate for as long as you want about what should be scored, what shouldn't be, etc., but at the end day we're still going to have senile old men, practically blind people and semi-******ed people judging fights. This of course doesn't even include the guys who are in the pockets of certain promoters or have ties to those promoters.

I'm always looking for unconventional ways to predict an outcome of a fight.

It would be interesting to compile a list of judges along with what they tend to favor when scoring (if they are consistent).

It could give a lot of insight to how a fight might go before the fighters even step into the ring and might even show the reasoning why certain judges get certain fights in the first place.

judges are never consistent. look at harold lederman. he scores some fights for guys who are simply busy then in other fights he scores fights for the guy landing the cleaner punches. look at chuck giampa who scored delahoya-mayweather 8 rounds to 4 for mayweather then calzaghe-hopkins 9 rounds to 3 for calzaghe when it was almost the same fight with 1 guy coming forward throwing a lot of ineffective shots and the other guy landing the cleaner punches. he can't even use the he was influenced by the pro calzaghe crowd excuse because the crowd was pro delahoya and he got that fight right. he's just incompetent and or corrupt.

You can always find consistencies. They don't always have to be official scoring related. For example, do they always favor the odds favorite, the hometown fighter, the promotional company with the deeper pockets? Every little pattern could say a lot about a judge and outcome of a fight.

In the case of Giampa, Mayweather and Calzaghe were both the favorites if I remember correctly.
