He's humble, powerful, and has all the tools necessary to be great at 20, yet you find reasons to hate on him?...I guess you have your reasons, just hope you stick to them if he's in the spotlight and on top some time down the line

I have no hate for Canelo. My problem is with his fans. You hype him as if he was the next great Mexican fighter, even though he has done nothing to warrant such statements. If I was to accept that he, is in fact the next great champion, then I would have to hold him to the same standard. Doing that would result in me being called a "hater" because I want the "kid" to step up his competition.

What is he then? Is he the next great champion or is he one of those fighters that are commonplace in boxing? If you can answer those questions, then perhaps I might be able to correctly decide what standard he should uphold, and while discussing him, not offend any of his fanboys.

By the way do you still think Ortiz is still a "journeman"?

You must have me confused, I don't believe I've ever even mentioned Ortiz on this forum.

Look man, this is the new age with the fact that Mexico is looking for their next superstar, but, Mexicans aren't the dumbest of fans and don't just cling on to anyone. He's only 20, he's got well over 35 pro fights and his poise, skill, and power in the ring are something to be considered special, sure he's being protected right now, just like 95% of prospects in this day in age, but it's not his fault, blame his management.

Now I'm a fan, a HUGE FAN of Canelo I might add, been watching him for about 3 years now, and I don't overrate him, I call it how I see it. He's got the tools to be GREAT, but because us fans say that, it doesn't mean we're putting him in the same class as Chava Sanchez, Erik Morales, Julio Cesar Chavez, Ricardo Lopez, etc. those are an ELITE class of fighters, but nothing says that Canelo can't or won't join that list one day, but don't be so hard on him now, he's doing all he can at 20 years old, he'll get the Cotto, Angulo, Cintron, JCCjr, etc names on his resume soon enough.

Canelo's physical power impresses me more than his punch power.

He is HUGE, he just looks like a power-house. His neck and back look like something you'd see on a guy at super-middle or light heavy. He looks like he could physically bully anyone at the weight. He looked a couple of divisions bigger than Rhodes, and that's him at 20.

Saying that, his punches are certainly powerful aswell. They are fast and thudding...those will also get bigger as he matures.

Exactly, someone mentioned (I believe it was RJJ) who said he's sort of like a Mexican Mike Tyson, I Lol'd, but thinking about it now, how big he is at 20 is pretty comparable to Tyson's size at 18, of course he's not as devastating or even as powerful, but his build is scary for a 20 year old, I can only imagine at 25-28 years old WOW!

Kid Canelo is a young very talented fighter, with great skills. Might someday become a Great fighter. But just like Julio Jr. he needs to step up with the competition. He has 35 fights already. Recieved a "title" from HoesA, and fought a class "B" Euro in his 1st defence!! Jr has over 40 fights and a "gift" title. Now the Kid and Jr BOTH need to prove what they are really made of!!! I wish them well.

he's got good power but not devastating power, i wouldn't blame it on the gloves either. he's improving, so that's good. i hope he somehow becomes a devastating power puncher though, right now he has good combos with good power to them. to me, he fights at the pace his opponents fight at, the reason he doesn't stop them when we expect him to. that or he really just wants rounds and experience under his belt, either way, he does what he needs to do to get the W and is disciplined, not a bad thing to have at such a young age. i don't expect him to be the best mexican fighter since chavez sr though, to me, he's just got potential to be a great fighter (in general), and hopefully at the rate he is going, he can become that.
