We all know Alvarez shouldn't have that strap yet, and this fight wouldn't be frowned on if he wasn't a titlist already - I say let the kid get some more seasoning in with opponents who can maybe check him out in a couple departments, then start calling on his crew to make one of the more compelling matchups in two or three fights' time.

Lots of people complaining about this possible match but I think it’s a good matchup... Mayorga is a step up from any of Canelos past opponents I don’t think that’s debatable. Mayorga showed leading up to the Cotto fight that he can still train like a world champ. He looked in the best shape that I have seen him in recent years. Also it does wonders for Canelos rep if he destroys Mayorga easier than Cotto did. I like the fight.. Make it happen.

look vanes...after this fight canelo will fight you ok
you'll get KTFO but you'll get a good payday.

The Racket Squad: Pay Per Vile?
Mayorga is like a pro wrestler who keeps coming back.
We all get the joke, he gets paid and the serious fans are the ones who take the blows.
If Cotto /Mayorga was worthy of PPV status in Top Rank circles, then what will this blowout be valued at?
Alvarez will take the Mayorga (money) and run.
Ricardo fits the Canelo requirements:
Late 30's, name losses under his belt and at the end of the line.
Cotto and a variety of others have faded but are still too dangerous for the 'prodigy.'
Therefore, this is what is left.
Tyson was a prodigy. Sanchez was a prodigy, Chavez Sr. was a prodigy.
Canelo is simply the winner of Boxings version of American Idol.
( Or even better, 'Mexicos Got Talent' )
In respect to Mayweather doing the world a favor by taking on Ortiz:
Victor took Berto's heart in very tough brawl.
Floyd is simply too skilled for a young man who was a big underdog in his finest outing.
A Pac fight would be a favor. A real one.

This will be Canelo's first fight against a former world champion besides the heavily faded Baldomir. I sense this is going to be next it makes perfect sense. Mayorga is a big dude who will be able to go some rounds with the kid.

I know the dude is young and they want to continue to build him up but you can't keep giving him old washed up fighters and expect the fans to "BELIEVE THE HYPE"
He true test won't come until he fights some young and hungry just like him, someone like Vanes or Austin Trout
or a tough Veteran like Cotto, Angulo, Williams
or a LIVE OLD FIGHTER like Fight Grady Brewer or Cornelius Bundrage, someone that will at least TRY and not just take a Pay Check to be Alvarez's PUNCHING BAG like Hatton and this last guy
Golden Boy Promotions might be playing it a little "TOO SAFE" with Alvarez

This guy is a world champion now. He should be fighting top contenders and formidable opposition. Mayorga has been a shot fighter for sometime now, with his last 4 loses coming by KO. This is the kind of thing that really hurts boxing.Last edited by iniduoh; 06-20-2011, 03:59 PM.

He clearly isn't a Champion or a worthy JMW titlist yet. The status has been thrust on him so that froggish men in suits can benefit from it, which is why I think the boxing public needs to bear with the kid a little.
