Comments Thread For: Steward: David Haye Will Be Wladimir's Signature Fight

Trainer Emanuel Steward is predicting a signature performance by Wladimir Klitschko on July 2 in Hamburg, Germany. The IBO/WBO/IBF champ will face British rival David Haye, the WBA champion, in a highly anticipated unification bout. Steward, who views Haye as a very dangerous opponent, doesn't want Wladimir playing the role of a counter-puncher. He wants his boxer to put the pressure on Haye and to strike first off the jab.

Stewart is smart here. If Wlad tries to play the counter puncher, i feel that will play into Haye's hands BUT since Wlad likes doing things his way...he might just try to play Counter puncher.

Both will be very cautious until someone gets their chin checked most likely Haye. I expect this to be a boring fight for casual fans but for the people who know this can end at any minute it will be full of suspense.

Can't wait for this fight Haye will knock him out in 7 he's to quick for Wladimir but the Hayemaker has to go all out swinging strong hard fast punches and not let Wladimir box him.

Haye gasses out easily, so he won't do that. It will be a chicken run for both fighters

Interesting how the Klitschko fans devalue Haye yet his own trainer says he will be the fighter that Wlad will be remembered for.

What is it to be Klit fans???

Both are right. Haye has done nothing at Heavyweight to justify the hype, but he's a genius at self-promotion, and has managed to convince a lot of people that he has a serious chance of winning. It's the first time for years that a lot of people think Wlad has a genuine chance of losing. Also, even though Haye is over-rated by many, he still has a combination of power, speed and explosiveness that Wlad hasn't had to face since the Sanders fight. Thus he does have a puncher's chance, despite his lack of skills and defence. So even though Haye is seriously over-rated, as Wlad's fans say he is (although not as over-rated as some of them claim - he is explosive and very fast), he will still be Wlad's signature fight in a way, because so many people have bought into his hype, and because he does have a puncher's chance of winning.
