    Canelo Klitschko?

Is it me, or did Saul Alvarez remind you of Wladimir Klitschko last night?

    - The was calm, patient, and didn't over commit himself.

    - His jab and right hand worked Rhodes over like pistons. Has heavy, drumming power.

    - Although he isn't very tall, he used his height to keep out of reach of Rhodes, which made it very difficult to hit him cleanly. While his head movement isn't great, the way he controlled the distance made him elusive.

    - Once he had Rhodes hurt, he put the pressure on and forced a late stoppage. Very Klitschko-esque.

    - Never once got lulled into a false sense of confidence. Kept his head. Listened to the advice of his corner.

I may be completely wrong, but he just reminded me of a LMW Wladimir Klitschko. Even though Rhode's wasn't the greatest opponent, I was very impressed with the way Canelo boxed. If he carries on improving from fight to fight the way he has, I don't think their is any limit to how successful he can become. He is definitely a star in the making and will prove very difficult to beat.

Read the RBR and other threads, I said he gave him the Wlad treat ment and ppl were like "HOW DARE U SAY THAT HE THROWS COMBOS ARHGHAH@@"

What I saw was Wlad yesterday in the ring, Patient, great Ring IQ, not over commiting, punching when the time is right, get the opponent scared to throw a punch or counter you because you would counter it.

Dude carried Rhodes till the 12th while weakening him during 1-11 so he was ready for the picking and took him out with ease. I made a Canelo bandwagon thread, I saw a little bit of everything from Canelo last night

Saw Wlad in him with the patience and carrying someone then KO'ing them when they are weak.

We saw a little bit of Floyds defence and head movement.

and we saw Pacq's combos, Canelo had some sick sick combos, A right straight, 2 jabs, followed by a left? NICE!!

He really impressed me last night

You can't make a comparison on boxing scene without being derided. Just because you say a boxer is similar to another, doesn't mean you imply they are exactly the same.

I agree with everything you have said. Canelo is the real deal. He may lose a couple along the way, but he's a hard fight for anybody at LMW.

Canelo is about combination punching. His jab was not great. Wlad is all about the jab, one-two punches and clinching.

The only similarity comes in the form of patience and poise.

          That's true.

In my head Haye and Jean Pascal are pretty much the same fighter. But I think I'm completely alone in that assessment.

Im not talking about combinations. Its the fact that at 20 years old, he didnt go in for the kill (pretty sure he couldve). He slowly and methodically busted this guy's face up for 12 rounds. Showed real great Ring Smarts, instead of blowing his load in the first few rounds he took it slow, figuring his opponent out and winning every round in the process by making him so weak that by the 12th the dude has nothing left.

This is the domination we see out of Wlad, dominate a fighter without losing a round while busting up his face and getting him ready for the KO or make the person quit.

It wasnt his power yesterday, it was his precise punches and Counter-counter punches that made him so good and Rhodes was about to quit on his stool, his face looked messed up and Canelo looked like he went out for a jog.

We havent seen this out of a young dude in a long time, thats what I mean by Wlad' treatment.

            1) win all rounds while slowly and precisly destroying his opponent infront of him and finishing him off in the later parts of the fight. He didnt hesitate, he didnt rush things, he knew what he was doing.

Other fighters wouldve went for the kill and blown their load and have gassed and maybe Rhodes wouldve thrown a huge counter to finish him off like he did last fight when the dude blew his load.

I wasnt a fan of Canelo before because of all the mexican hype but I became a big fan of his work last night, dude was in the zone and for a guy who is 20 he has all the tools.

Plus his combo's, oh man were they pretty and un-usual. Look at that first Knockdown, its a straight right hand to the face followed by 2 jabs in the exact same spot followed by a right hook.

He was throwing some sick body/head combos last night too like 4-6 punch combos which you couldnt block because they went head/body/head/body/body/head

Good to know I wasnt the only one to make the comparison. I was getting some heat for saying it last night and wanted to re-dl the fight cuz maybe I was wrong. Looks like I wasnt since other people saw the same thing in him.

Canelo looks like a man compared to JCC Jr. He would whoop him for 12 rounds. Zbik tooled JCC and shouldve won but he has no power. Canelo does.

I don't like Canelo being compared to Wlad, as Saul is p4p a more impressive boxer IMO.
Although i agree that the manner in which he destroyed Rhodes was like Wlad. Just by beating down his opponent gradually, not being reckless and then taking him out in the later rounds.
Yesterday Canelo showed he has the discipline to get up their with the best.
