Comments Thread For: Martin Murray Knocks Nick Blackwell Out in Five Rounds

At Robin Park Centre in Wigan, heavy favorite Martin Murray (23-0, 10KOs) stopped previously undefeated Nick Blackwell (8-1, 2KOs) in the fifth round - with the British, Commonwealth and WBA Intercontinental middleweight titles at stake. Murray was the much stronger man and he hurt Blackwell at several points, and left him battered and exhausted at the end. Blackwell's corner stopped the fight before the sixth round.

He didn't get knocked out. His corner pulled him between rounds as he was gassed.

I guess Calzaghe knocked Manfredo unconscious in devastating fashion.

I think the kid Blackwell deserves a bit of credit. He took on a powerful experienced champion with eight fights of experience, at short notice and giving away anywhere up to (and possibly beyond) 14lbs! He was busted up pretty bad in the last round and yet he carried on swinging.

He'll learn from this and may go on to be a pretty decent fighter.

Yeah, pretty bad match-up for the kid.

          Hope he got paid well.
