    Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez

Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez is a very good hard fighter that will be destroyed against the first elite boxer he faces. I watched the saul vs Hatton fight and I saw that he can be hit at will and he has poor foot work. I see he is a very tough kid that has that typical Mexican search and destroy attitude in the ring. He needs to learn to box better ,more defense like Marquez. Soon Saul will be damaged with scar tissue . He will began to cut very easily. I love to watch him fight because he brings intensity to the fight, but I wish he would box more and take less punishment. If Hattons little brother can do what he did in the ring against Saul what will Martinez or some other slick boxer on the elite level do to him. If he learns defense he could be a real problem for anybody, but if he does not get better at defense Saul will have a very short career, he does not have the speed or foot work. He must learn to slip more and block more. This is just my opinion. What do you guys think about his future, style, defense?

After watching last nights bout I see Saul has made some improvements on his defense. Showing he has the abilty to to be patient and block and move his head. He needs to improve more in this area, but he has gotten better. He also needs to stop throwing so many looping shots. He will get caught early against a Sergio Martinez like fighter if he does not. He was very successfull when he threw those straight hard shots. Hes a very exciting hard fighter for anybody out there. A few more improvments. An just maybe we are looking at the future. The verdict is still not out,I want to see him against a fighter whith speed and more skills.

Martinez is a different level from Canelo. I think everyone agrees to that. In a year or two I think Canelo may have the ring smarts. Boy is only 20 years old and has a LONG road ahead of him.

Don't write him off. A fight with Martinez would be good and would also be a very important learning process for Alvarez. But I think Cotto, Angulo and especially Williams all need to be looked at first.

I said Martiez beause hes saying hes to good to be on a Mayweather card. If hes that good let him fight Martinez, lol. They are the same weight. Lets see what he got, and if hes for real or not. Martinez by KO. Cotto, Margarita, angulo and ,Paul williams are all come forward brawlers. They make for good fights but not good boxing matches. If he want to be considered by die hard boxing fans as an elite fighter then he must compete against an elite boxer. Not just by name , but in there prime coming off victories. Martinez would be perfect. Hes never gonna learn fighting walking talking punching bags.

Good to see MattHatt's performance v Alvarez getting some praise. He was a WW stepping up but as the OP says showed how to get at Alvarez and did a much better job than Rhodes who on the night, just fought in a confused manner.

Agree re. Canelo's footwork but he can improve, just 20 yrs old.
