Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez future P4P star?

For me I would say he has the talent, following and age to become a top 5 P4P fighter in the world within the next 2/3 years. Maybe even quicker. The kids got so much talent and power and hes only 20 its frightening to think what he would be like when hes fully grown and his body fills out?

Within the next 3 years? Easy there. Like the famous Canelo saying goes; "Remember this kid is only 20" he needs to get in there with different types of fighters first and we'll see if he can adjust. Sure Ryan is past his prime, but this is the first step. Rhodes is a tough southpaw and I'm not sure if Canelo will walk through him, and if he does it'll be impressive.

Rhodes has a good punch on him and it's a tricky fight, but I fully expect canelo to win. Also, in 3 years what is that a possible 7-9 fights? I think by then he will be at least P4P top 10. In that time he would have fought probably all different styles.

Looks like Angulo is gonna be calling dude man out. Then we'll get to see if Canelo can take a punch like a mexican. Its funny if you close your eyes and hear his name you think.... ***ish. If you open your eyes and plug your ears you think... irish. He's yet to show me any mexican besides his nickname.
Let el Perro at him and we will see

Hearing "Canelo Alvarez" makes you think he's ***ish?

I know it's the thing to say with him but it's 100% true. He is only 20 and he has the size, power and SPEED (something people don't talk about much) to be a pound for pound fighter.

He is learning on the job and will be much better very soon. He definitely has a Mexican approach to the sport though, maybe too much. He loves to brawl when he has good speed and quickness he rarely uses. As Roy Jones Jr said though in one of his telecasts, it's because he's young and it's his mindset.

No but hearing Saul Alvarez does. I think thats the name of my dentist.
The kid is strong at this weight, but really what challenge has been put in front of him... Two good boxers' brothers. If a fighter has never been rocked, hes never been in a real fight. I like watching the ginger child but it seems to me that its more that we want him to be than what is he actually is at the moment. But we will see only time can tell. I'd love a strong hard hitting mex middleweight. It'd be a thing of beauty.

Oh you mean "Saul"....hahah I don't think Alvarez sounds very ***ish. Saul doesn't translate the same in Spanish I guess, so I don't get the same.

Well from what I know he has a good base in Mexico, coming from a family with 7 pro boxers. Like I said, the kid is young and I understand why everyone is either hyping him up or tearing him down but at this stage it's just way too early.

I don't see him being a Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather. He will be Top 7 P4P only if he beats Miguel Cotto, and Kermit Cintron. Cotto is about 8-10 so he beats Cotto and becomes 7. I don't see number 1. Maybe top 5 one day.

i think canelo is a solid fighter. i see him in the top 10 within a year or so... depending on his matchups.

he doesnt have that "special/elite" level characteristics like:
                    • gamboa's explosiveness
                    • berto's hand speed
                    • donaire's power
                    • sergio's slickness

but i consider canelo being "blue collar"... he just gets the job done. i dont think i ever watched one of his matches and said, "WOW".

its hard to judge canelo based on quality of opposition. im judging based on skillset and performances thus far.
