this sounds real nice, but realistically raising minimum wages is not economically viable. all it will do is cause many people to lose jobs, while other guys who keep their jobs will just make a few cents more. not to mention that if labor is not as cheap in the Phillipines then its quite possible manufacturers of basic products will pack up and relocate in a different country. needless to say, that means less jobs and a lower GDP.

raising minimum wage sounds nice on paper, but it has a lot of negative drawbacks that most people dont think of because their mindframe is 'hell yea now i get more moneyz'

While I applaud Pac for doing this(it boils down to about $3 a month), what he should really be concentrating on is building good paying jobs, and ending corruption. There is ZERO reason why the Philippines couldn't be prospering and growing like China, India and Brazil. The wages are cheap, people already for the most part speak English and they don't mind hard work. Corruption is the main problem in the Philippines. From the Top to the bottom there is a HUGE amount of corruption. You can ride down the street and watch the cops taking bribes, that's how bad it is. They need to start screening and hiring people of good moral character to be watchdogs, set up stings all over the place and advice everyone that corruption is being cracked down on. That it won't be tolerated any longer. Also, they need to have a campaign to end corruption. Where Filipinos can believe in their country, get it growing and taking an active stand to build it and release it from the grips of corruption. If Ninoy Aquino had lived, I am sure that country would look far different.

yes,,,,it is easy to say higher wages for workers........you and me can also easily say the same when we want to......but likely no one would care when we say so.......but people is bound to care and listen when one who is famous and a congressman who can pass a bill says and act on it.....anyway, pac is trying to help workers...a wage increase is not something new

one thing that puzzles me about manny is why he would say things like this, or pander to the poor, when you are allied with a company like nike. thats ****** IMO. it plays both sides of the coin.
