Olympia, Liverpool, Merseyside - 35-year-old veteran Chris Edwards (16-14-3, 4KOs) won a twelve round split decision over 24-year-old Paul Edwards (8-1, 2KOs) to win the British flyweight title. The two boxers engaged in a back and forth toe to toe war for twelve rounds. The crowd gave them a standing ovation after the bout was over. The scores were 115-114 for Paul Edwards, 115-114 and 115-113 for Chris Edwards. Paul controlled the action in the early rounds, but then he tired in the middle rounds where Chris Edwards took over. There were a lot of close rounds that were hard to score. Both boxers were open to a rematch.
