I don't think Groves' performance was bad, but the strategy he followed was hardly rocket-science.

Booth is the same guy whose advice to Groves in the Anderson fight was to "stop slugging with a slugger", when his problem wasn't lack of defence per se, but poor defensive execution, especially with his back to the ropes (he was trying to slip and counter off them, but kept getting hit in the 3rd) - instead of feeding Groves practical advice on what to change, Booth's first action was to berate him for "slugging with a slugger".
