Comments Thread For: Saul Alvarez Expects a "Very Difficult" Fight From Rhodes

WBC 154-pound champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez expects a very tough fight on June 18, when he makes the first defense of his title against England's Ryan Rhodes at Arena VFG in his native Guadalajara. Alvarez (36-0-1, 26KOs), 20, has the edge in youth, but he doesn't have the experence of Rhodes (45-4, 31KOs), 34. Alvarez told Jose Pando that he's training for the most difficult fight of his entire career.

I expect Alvarez to win but this has got bannana skin written all over it. Alvarez is seriously green and Rhodes is a major step up from Hatton. He can box, and go to war if he has to. If Alvarez he is the fighter everyone keeps telling us then he will win, if he is anything less he could come unstuck. Rhodes has a winning mentality, and is still a hungry fighter.

Rhodes could be hell for a young fighter like Alvarez, although I expect him to fold around the 6th. I can't see him handling Canelo's power very well.

haha @ "rhodesy". ive watched a few rounds of him on youtube and it will definitely be alvarez's toughest test, but he should edge out the decision along the lines of 117-111 due to work rate.

rhodes has the power and size hatton lacked; he still won't be as physically strong and imposing as saul, but if hatton had more power i think it would have been a closer fight.

                Could be the issue.

Matt Hatton definitely has a good chin, and Rhodes seems to be able to be hurt.

But then again he maintains that ability to be dangerous when hurt which considering how reckless Canelo was against Hatton, he could possibly turn it around.

I'd favor Rhodes, but that is only based on the two fights I've seen of Canelo. He didn't look THAT special. But I can't see how so many people can get it so wrong. He must be a lot better than he has looked recently.

This is a solid fight, I cant pick a winner. One thing, we will know a lot more about Canelo at the end of this fight, thats for sure.

                    WARRR Canelo !!

Best of luck to both guys.
