Leonard outboxed Duran in their rematch. He didnt run, he hammered Duran when Duran bull rushed him.
I believe he was starting to hurt and humiliate Duran, and thats why he quit.

Duran faced several other fighters at LW who ran all night, but Duran eventually got to them.

Duran may have jumped up in weight, but he was still prime. Less wild, more patient and experienced then he was for most of his LW career. A strong, fast welterweight.
    duran didn't quit.

he just wanted to give leonard the 2nd fight so they can have a trilogy.

but leonard ducked him for years. waiting 'til duran was shot.

I could never discredit Duran for winning that fight. It made both guys great.Duran was hungry, pissed, and on fire that night in Montreal.Leonard still gave him all he could handle. What a classic fight! The next 2 just proved how much Ray had learned from the first fight. If you watch the second fight, Ray's counters off the ropes was rocking Duran. Not only was Duran gettin humiliated by the showboating, but he was tasting some heavy artillary from the counters. I think he quit because he was scared he would get caught by 1 of those fast counters that he didn't see and get KO'd. 2 legends of the ring!!!

No way. Sugar had already beaten Benitez. He was tested and a Gold Medal winner. Just because he learned from his mistakes and boxed in the rematch doesn't mean he was green. He had a shot to beat Duran, thought he could slug, and got hammered with power punches.

Don't bother explaining anything to that joker. As I told him a week or so ago,his knowledge of the sport is as pitiful as his social life.He genuinely know very little about Leonard,Duran and virtually every other boxer outside the last five or ten years.

Duran pretty much acknowledged in an interview with Sports Illustrated that he quit in order to avoid a potential stoppage
