Two-time world super-featherweight champion Genaro Hernandez has died of cancer at the age of 45.
Hernandez won the WBA crown in 1991 and defended eight times before challenging WBO lightweight champion Oscar de la Hoya in 1995 and losing in six rounds.
He then won the WBC super-featherweight title in 1997, beating Azumah Nelson on a split decision, making two defences.
His last fight was in 1998, when he lost the title to future American superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Hernandez, nicknamed 'Chicanito' ('Little Mexican') but born in Los Angeles, retired later that year because of a small blood clot on his brain and finished with a career record of 38 wins, two defeats and one draw.
His wife, Liliana, said he died of a rare form of cancer called rhabdomyosarcoma, which attacks muscle fibres.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, a daughter, three brothers, two sisters and a father.
