This is what i do not understand. Why are all these promoters putting all their stock in HBO only. HBO is a network with a limited schedule. Shop around and take your dance elsewhere. Why wait for HBO? Who is in control here?

I am sure Martinez would sell out an arena in his home town with a title defense. Why can't Lou invest a bit and risk a bit by putting on a home show for Martinez. See this is what is Killing the sport. It is all about greed and easy money via no risk to the promoter at all.

Boxing used to thrive on fighters building a solid home base, even if it is not their home town. Localized hype is what builds fans and keeps a sport strong. It may not mean immediate big bucks, but it will usually work.

We are now stuck with a sport dependent on two cable outlets, with promoters more interested in just shaving off their guaranteed percentage from that specific outlet, without a care in the world what sized venue or what casino town it is located in.

No home bases + no commitment to investing in the sport will only equal a dying sport

they don't want to risk their money.

that's why i don't hate arum. arum spends/risks money on his fighters to keep them busy even though showtime and hbo ain't paying for it.

If they do hate him, it's because he's a lying hypocrite, who, while hiding in Yemen, contacts slimey and idiotic journalists to release propaganda instead of fighting a man who he knows would decimate him.

Thankfully, as evidenced by the millions who tuned into watch a 43rd try and a 43th fail, the public are not as easily led or downright ****** as Montoya.

Yup Arum has shown the willingness to shop around and also showcase many local cards in Mexico and smaller home based cities and will even invest in his own PPV's. He is a snake, but he still does many things the right way.

Sergio Martinez could definitely sell over 500k buys with a good countdown and more if a 24/7 was used, he's a GREAT guy. And a great fighter. Why else would HBO pay him $2 million for a fight?

He'd be successful. Arum doesn't want that, neither does HBO

they're not gonna build up a guy who will be done in 1-2 years.

they'll still show martinez but it'll be on fights they want. not fights that will help martinez build his name.
Well Hopkins was still in big fights on HBO in his 40s and will be coming back for another big fight with Dawson.

Johnson changes through HBO and Showtime and is 42, hes till gets shown.

              JMM.

              Etc.

I highly doubt is about age due to Martinez :ending his career in 1-2 years".

no one would like to invest in a 35 year old prodigy... its just a senseless business...

again, if martinez is really that skilled, HBO would have shown interest on his 20th fight... and not on his 40th...

Most do not know who Sergio Martinez is. I made a post on here a few months ago where I mentioned him to a more casual fan. Now this guy knows the big names, but thought Martinez was a tennis player. He simply is not over that hump. He needs to keep busy. He needs more exposure.

Lets say he had a title defense in his home town. ESPN carried it. He may not get much money from ESPN, but he gets more and more exposure. Right now though his promoter is keeping him sitting on his a$$ while trying to secure a dance date with HBO. That is what is wrong.

Sergio getting the 09 Mosley treatment. It's actually a liability to win fights convincingly now days. Top Rank won't even consider a fight with a live opponent anymore.

Excuses like "He is too good" are now fair game for fighters and promoters, even networks apparently.
