  • Super Six is coming to an end, what's the next REALISTIC tournament?

For Showtime. Try to keep in mind fighters who may have contracts with HBO, Top Rank guys probably not participating, etc.

There are lots of divisions which could turn exciting with a tournament.

There are some divisions that just wouldn't work right now:
    heavyweight (no point)
light heavyweight (top guys are all fighting eachother)
    welterweight (pointless w/o pac/floyd)
Junior Welterweight (too difficult to get all the top guys, HBO contracts, etc.)

Cruiserweight could work, they could even follow the same America vs Europe format if they wanted to (example: Cunningham, Troy Ross, Lateef vs Huck, Lebedev, Wlodarczyk).

Middleweight would be badass even if they couldn't get the top name or two (chavez, martinez, sturm). You could still potentially have guys like Pirog, Golovkin, Macklin, Zbik, etc. The winner would be built up to fight Martinez.

I could also see a weight class like Junior Lightweight, who no one really cares about, suddenly get a big spark with a tournament like this, especially if Gamboa were to go up in weight and enter the tournament.

    Thoughts/ideas?

I'd like to see all these up and comers @ WW duke it out, winner gets a Pac/Mayweather payday.

Also, 140 needs one even though it looks like it already started.

In terms of pure action and even mactch-ups probably cruiserweights, though I haven't given it too much thought.

it can't work at 140. Khan, Alexander, Bradley all have contracts with HBO. Plus they are probably a bit too expensive for a Showtime tournament.

There will no tournament anymore cause it's there is too much trouble with injury,
          promotors etc.

Maybe 135, Marquez seems to have vacated 135.

Soto, Katsidis, Guerrero, Juan Diaz, Rios, Vazquez are all fighters who don't command huge paydays so might be willing to make the switch to showtime.

And there are plenty of fighters who could fill in for withdrawals/injuries like Acosta, Escobedo, Linares, Demarco, David Diaz and Antillion.

that's with Round Robin tournaments, likely the tournaments from now on will be single elimination.

Showtime has already said they want to keep doing tournaments. After the Super Six they did the Super Bantamweight and they are currently doing a Strikeforce Heavyweight tournament (MMA), all of which have been successful.

That would be a good one. I'm pretty sure Guerrero is moving to 140 pounds, although maybe he would change his mind with a tournament. I have a feeling Guerrero vs Maidana is going to happen.

                  This is a fantastic idea.

If Im not mistaken Saureland is working with Showtime to get a cruiserweight super six tournament off the ground.

In a perfect world Id like to see the Featherweights in some sort of tourney.

                    Gamboa-Cuba
                    John-Indonesia
                    Salido-Mexico
                    JuanMa Lopez-PR
                    Rafa Marquez-Mexico
                    Mikey Garcia-USA

Rigondeaux, Arce, or Vazquez Jr could come up 4 pounds to participate. And I have to think Montiel and Donaire would move up 2 divisions to participate too. They already drain themselves to make Bantam.

Problem is Arum is on record saying he'd never put his fighters in such a tourney.

I think its doable at Cruiser and at the very low weight classes because those guys would give up match making rights (to a certain extent) for a schedule format because they'll make more money in the long run because its a group promotion and headlining dates would be guaranteed for every fight.

I think everyone can learn from The Super Six. If it happened again they'd probably fight 2 or 4 fights in the group stage, a home and away scenario. Nobody would get all their fights in their home country. Refs would be from a neutral country, and both fighters would get one home judge with a 3rd neutral country judge. in addition dropping out for any reason would end up in a stiff penalty and a forefit of purse money and/or belts.

It can be done, the contender series and prizefighter showed the fighters dont all have to be top tier for it to work. It would be nice but they all dont have to be holding a belt.
