It seems that the parents were ok with it. Besides Martinez has done many more things for the bullied youth that never get mentioned, he does these things because he wants to not for fame or to gain suppourt.

It's likely having the reporters come over was a decision made by the parents. The video mentioned they were having financial troubles, so they probably struck a deal with a local news station (note the van behind Sergio) to let the event be filmed in exchange for some money. Plus I'm guessing they'll be setting up some sort of donation box and want to advertise it on tv.
