Amir Khan admits Breidis Prescott rematch is in future targets

WBA light-weltwerweight champion Amir Khan has revealed his future plans to World Boxing News amidst former opponents Marcos Maidana and Paul McCloskey clambering for a return with the former Olympic silver medallist. The 24 year-old has already signed to fight Zab Judah in a unification and hopes to add more belts to his haul after victory over the New Yorker.

‘King’ Khan has been accused of avoiding certain fighters in the past, but the man himself has told WBN that he doesn’t feel he needs to tread over the same ground. However, there is one former opponent that Khan says he will meet in the future and that is the only man to defeat him in 26 fights, Breidis Prescott.

“Fight maidana again? After beating him and dropping him, within six months he is crying to get beat again,” Khan stated to World Boxing News.

“I’ve got other goals, vs Judah, vs Bradley, vs Prescott. Why Maidana or McCloskey, I been there and done it.”

With the WBA/IBF title unification fight with Judah just six weeks away, Khan will then switch his attention back to WBC and WBO champion Timothy Bradley, who he was expected to fight until the American pulled out of negotiations. If the Bolton fighter can come through Judah and Bradley, he could then seek to avenge his 2008 defeat to Prescott whilst holding all four major 140lb titles in 2012.

The only stumbling block may be the WBA's insistance that Khan defend his title against interim title holder Marcos Maidana, who is keen on getting Khan back in the ring after their spectacular first fight last December. Maidana has stated that Khan must face him before September or he will be stripped of the belt, with the title passing directly to him.

Why not clear his one blemish while he still can,use it as a tuneup fight.

        zzzz...Precott is old news.

There is absolutely no way in hell that if Khan beats Judah and then Bradley that he is giving Prescott a shot at the lineage. Will NEVER happen.

Only way Prescott gets a shot at Khan is if he beats a few live bodies. I don't see that happening. I wouldn't mind seeing McCloskey-Precott.

yes but not yet...too risky with lil reward...let prescott build a name for himself first .......and if breideis cant, then no need to, khan willl be forgiven for not rematching him in due time.....sort of like sergio not rematching margo...

Why not! He fought McCloskey so there is no particular reason for him to skip Prescott. Let's get it on.

I think in the case of Prescott - Khan, Khan has moved onto bigger and better things while Prescott is only ever kept in the picture by calling out Khan (and other top 140 fighters). It's not like he deserves any fights with any of the other top 140 fighters so it shouldn't be any different with Khan.

But if he wants to, then fair enough, but to me I see it as a step backward for Khan. He doesn't gain anything from beating Prescott apart from saying he avenged a defeat. He doesn't gain anything resume wise or ranking (either 140 or P4P) wise, so I don't see the point. But thats just me.

Yes I think he should, he got a lot of hate in the UK when he was knocked out, a lot of people wanted it to happen and as soon as it did they said he was never that good, rubbish p*ki that shouldn't be wearing the British flag on his shorts, it would be good for him to silence the critics.

Also there was a lot of conspiracy surrounding that fight, his trainer Rubio? suggested the fight I beleive and it looked like he clapped as Khan was knocked out, he told Khan the wrong stuff going into the fight too.

Plus beating the only guy who beat you ... revenge is sweet, even if the fight is irrelevant to boxing its very relevant to him.
