hbo can't make arum do anything he doesn't want to.
arum will just go to showtime or do his own ppv.
and therein lies the key difference.
Lou dibella is just a glorified booking agent for hbo. He even said 'but i did everything hbo told me to do'.
If hbo tried to dictate anything to arum he'd tell them to **** off and either take his guys to showtime or just produce his own ppvs like he's done in the past.
Hbo tried high-hatting him last with cotto so he took miguel and pac across the street. Hbo lost out on about 1.5+ mil in ppv buys in 2 fights. I'm sure they're offering blow jobs right now to uncle bob to get both guys back so he's in the position of power right now.
Lou talked **** about his bosses and i'm sure they'll put his leash back on.
And it's unfair to boxing that Arum doesn't share his stable ever. The reason why Taylor was almost a star was because he got the opportunities. Golden Boy shared their fighters with Dibella to make the best possible fights.
The reason Taylor wasn't a star was because he looked like **** against those guys. Could you imagine how big he would have been if he had impressively beat Hopkins and Wright?
Pavlik was almost near star status because he impressively knocked out Taylor and Miranda. He had gained a following and that's because Dibella is willing to put his fighters in with other promotional companies' fighters. Yes I am aware Pavlik was the mandatory, but Taylor could have tossed that belt and said Pavlik wasn't a draw.
If there was one thing you couldn't criticize Jermain Taylor for was that he took on competition, even the 154 pounders that moved up to fight him.
arum doesn't because he doesn't have to.
just how it is. sometimes it's bad for boxing but it's good for arum moneywise and that's all he cares about.
a lot of promoters would do the same thing if they could.
golden boy is dependent on hbo.
shaw , dibella and others are even more dependent on hbo , showtime , espn , etc.
uncle bob is not. showtime and hbo can tell uncle bob to feck off and uncle bob will still chug along with his own ppv's.
that's why arum doesn't play nice most of the time. he doesn't have to.
also remember , pavlik was a big break for sergio after the pwill loss.
i don't think uncle bob wants to "help" dibella again when it comes to martinez since what happened with pavlik-martinez.
lol I seriously try to ignore everything the idiots says but im glad people have called him out and exposed his ass, especially that one posts he made awhile back about B Hop being a higher ATG in the middleweight division then Monzon that pretty much confirmed how much the idiot knows about the sport.
bhop > Monson!!!
anyway.. Boxing has 'Johnny come lately' type of fans dont it? I mean, Martinez has been up there for 1-2 years now.. hes about as built as he can be tbh.
True. But, a lot has to do about the fighter Nationality.
If Martinez was Mexican and Alvarez and JCC Jr were Argentinian than their popularity would be reverse.
Nobody would care about Alvarez and JCC Jr and Martinez would have been a bigger star.
I agree ,Maravillas fanbase right now consist of hardcore boxing fans and a limited amount of Argentinians, He doesn't really have a big Latino following either
..which is a real shame

kinda like Margoresto before he f**ked Cotto up
As a MW all time? No way...
Now, if we're talking about P4P ATG's? Hopkins has a case. Because, one of his longevity and because he moved up in weight. But, just a case can be made and even then that might be reaching.
But, as for MW ATG's. Hopkins has no case whatsoever in being greater than Monzon. None at all. Monzon is in the top 4 greatest MW ever.
Hopkins IMO is outside the top 5 greatest MW ever. And, really a case can be made that he's not even in the top 10 TBH.
And, in a H2H match up. Hopkins said that he would beat Sugar Ray Robinson at MW, that a fight against Hagler would be 50/50 and a war where both would probably end up in the hospital. But, that most likely Monzon would beat him. Even Bernard Hopkins understood Monzon greatness.

Dude, the people who everyone calls one of the ATG was a Panamanian boxer name ROBERTO DURAN. Now, tell me how was Don King able to promote that boxer who had no support from fellow Panamanians? Don't tell me back in the 70s or 80s that there was a huge Panamanian-American population living in the United States.

Ultimately, it's the promoters fault for failing to get name recognition for his fighter.
Dibella hasn't been doing **** to get the Martinez brand out into those living rooms where it counts. Promoters need to spread the name far and wide to the biggest media outlets available and trust that the fighters will bring the goods come fight time.
