MANILA, Philippines – Filipino boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao will be relinquishing the World Boxing Council (WBC) super welterweight crown he has won over Mexico’s Antonio Margarito last November.
This after his camp revealed that they no longer intend to pit the Filipino champion against opponents heavier than welterweight (147 pounds).
His Canadian adviser, Michael Koncz, said the Margarito fight has placed the Filipino boxing icon's life at risk.
In that super welterweight bout, set at a 150-pound catch weight, Margarito has outweighed the smaller Pacquiao by 17 pounds.
The Filipino champion eventually defeated the bigger Mexican by a lopsided decision and won the WBC super welterweight crown. But he was badly bruised in the process.
“We learned from experience in the Margarito fight that giving away 10 to 15 pounds during fight night is very detrimental to the safety of Manny,” Koncz said in a report by sports commentator Ronnie Nathanielsz to Boxingscene.com.
“Because of those basic concerns, we have no intention for Manny to fight at 154. From this day forward the maximum weight would be 147 lb (welterweight),” he added

Couple that with the fact that Martinez wouldn't be able to make 150 or 151 which is likely where this fight (Pac vs Canelo) would take place.
And it's true he can't make anything above 147. He can't even make f'n 147, so how in the hell is he supposed to make anything higher? 147 is his limit but for a fight as lucrative as this he'd be crazy not to fight at 150 again even if he can't make it.

lots of crossover interests here are involved include this billionaires possible interest in investments in the Philippines
Manny's friends with a lotta gangsters and dudes in high places
either way its a win-win for fans
Canelo needs to work harder on his conditioning and nutrition to meet whatever catchweight they agree upon
hell, if old man Glen Johnson can slim down and look strong, Canelo shouldnt have a problem if he isnt being his lazy self

If Saul had experience on the big stage like Martinez and PWill. Pacquiao would be avoiding him like the plague.
It can't be the style because Saul moves just as fast or faster than Cotto. Has more heart than Cotto. with power in both hands like Mosley. So the only real reason must be his green status.
Can Martinez offer 65 million dollars ??
Can Martinez make 150 or 152 pounds ??
Isn't Ward too big for Martinez ??
Moron !!
