Floyd gave Pacquiao a undeserved 50/50 purse split, and he refused the fight over WADA testing. The issue still remains the same.

It sounds like Arum is negotiating through the media...

    Again.

Pacquiao was here last year. So it could be true.

The Pacman, Manny Pacquiao in Singapore!
          Saturday, August 21, 2010
Local boxers are delighted to have boxing legend Manny Pacquiao in their midst.

For those who are not familiar with his legacy, international boxing icon Manny Pacquiao is a fighter worshiped by boxing aficionados worldwide and an inspiration to many young aspiring boxers, having won an unprecedented nine world titles in seven different weight divisions. His bouts were legendary and caught the imagination of the boxing fraternity.

The Pacman” arrived in Singapore today for the very first time as part of an invitation by the Singapore government to experience what this sunny island has to offer in terms of food and attractions. One of his first stops was the Vanda Boxing Club, where he was greeted by a small group of media and boxing fanatics.

Besides acceding to requests for autographs and snap shots, the seven-division world-boxing champion sat down and spoke to us about his impression of Singapore, his political career, and even shared with sole Team Singapore boxing representative, Muhammed Hanurdeen bin Hamid, who will be aiming to knock the lights out of his opponents at the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games.

          1) What advice would you give to the young boxing athletes who are competing at the Youth Olympic Games, especially Singapore’s Muhammed Hanurdeen bin Hamin?

My advice to him and the rest of the boxers would be to train hard, focus and concentrate during their fights and most importantly, they must not forget to pray. And to Hanurudeen, I wish him good luck and success for his upcoming match.

          2) You started boxing at the age of thirteen and having gone through what our young boxers are experiencing, what kind of challenges do you think they are facing?

Regardless of what challenges these young boxers are facing, they must have the passion for boxing and be disciplined in whatever they do. Only then will they overcome all obstacles they face in this sport.

          3) It is your first time in Singapore. What do you think of our country and people?

I like Singapore and I find that Singaporeans are friendly and courteous. I would also like to thank the Singapore Tourism Board for making this trip possible.

          4) Now that you’re a politician, do you still train regularly and does politics get in the way of your boxing career?

Yes, I still train regularly and right now I am able to manage both roles quite comfortably. However, having accomplished so much in boxing, I am considering on hanging up my gloves soon and concentrate solely on my political career.

          5) So now that you are in politics, are you happier than you were in boxing?

I would not say I am happier in politics than in boxing because both are my passions in life and even when I was boxing, I had always dreamt of becoming a public servant and serving my country and people. Having done that, I would like to concentrate on helping my nation and its citizens.

                  Singapore to host Pacquiao-Mayweather bout?
                  August 21st, 2010 | Author: psports

by Ian De Cotta | Today Online

SINGAPORE – He is the world’s hottest boxing property and barely five hours after touching down at Changi Airport on Friday, Manny Pacquiao (picture) said he is keen to stage his biggest fight in Singapore. His preferred opponent: The much vaunted Floyd Mayweather Jr of the United States.

But Mayweather himself has to say yes. Nothing was said about the doping and blood test issue, which had hampered previous discussions between the two fighters’ camps.

Experts predict a clash between two of the world’s best boxers could create one of the biggest purses in the sport’s history, with each earning at least US$60 million ($81.5 million).

In an exclusive interview with Media-Corp at Vanda Boxing Club in Havelock Road, the 31-year-old Filipino superstar said he will speak to his boxing promoter, Bob Arum, to help make the event happen.

“I will talk to Bob Arum to stage one of my fights in Singapore, maybe next year,” said Pacquiao.

His clash with the unbeaten Mayweather would be the one of the most anticipated world championship bouts.

Pacquiao, also known as “Pacman”, is the reigning World Boxing Organisation welterweight champion and the only boxer ever to win nine titles in seven weight divisions.

Mayweather, the former World Boxing Council welterweight champion, owned nine championship belts in five divisions.

A face-off between the two was on the cards in March this year but was called off following unresolved arguments over blood testing for drugs.

Pacquiao, who will next fight Mexico’s Antonio Margarito on Nov 13, said: “I want to fight Mayweather because people are excited about it. I will ask Bob Arum if this is the match that can be staged here.”

Last year, Pacquiao fought at the 16,800-capacity MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. His last bout was against Ghana’s Joshua Clottey in March at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Texas in front of 40,000 fans.

Boxing aficionados feel the Marina Bay floating platform could be an ideal venue – with a seating capacity of 27,000 and a stunning backdrop made famous worldwide after two successful Formula 1 races and the opening ceremony of the Youth Olympic Games last Saturday.

The Singapore Tourism Board (STB), which arranged Pacquiao’s visit here, told MediaCorp they are keen to help make a fight of this magnitude happen.

“This is something we will support and do whatever we can to help make it a success,” said Mr Justin Chew, STB’s executive director for hospitality, F1 and sports.
