Comments Thread For: Marquez: Age Not a Factor With Pacquiao, Look at Hopkins

WBA/WBO junior welterweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez is confident that his age will not be a factor when he faces Manny Pacquiao on November 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Marquez will be 38-year-old by the time the two boxers meet in the ring for the third time. In 2004 they fought to a controversial draw and later, in 2008, Pacquiao won a controversial split decision. They fought at 126 and 130, but this time they face off at a catch-weight of 144-pounds.

I even tried to get them down to 143 pounds, but they opposed that and our negotiations closed at 144,"

Marquez should realize that the timing couldn't have been more opportune for him. Four years later and this fight is worth so much more for him. If he losesa against Pacquiao, he walks away with 5 million plus the upside. If he beats Pacquiao, he gets 10 mil on the rematch, plus a couple more good purses, then he rides into the sunset. Anytime before now, he'd never get this kind of package. Pacquiao grew into a greater boxoffice attraction in these four years, and Marquez will finally cash. Marquez, say no more buddy, say no more!

Also JMM is not Hopkins. Hopkins hasn't taken much punishment throughout his career. Hopkins doesn't let himself get more than 10 pounds over whatever weight class he's fighting at. Hopkins abstains from anything he feels will damage his body like alcohol and such.

JMM is the epitome of a true Mexican Warrior. This is why I admire the guy. He has that never-die-attitude. Pac had his fair share of struggles & challenges in his career, even before he won an Oscar Delahoya. Now that Pac is on top of the game, it's time for others to take that challenge.

If that's the case, then he could just turn around and look for inspiration in Pac. Pac took a lot of beating in his career & Pac from 135 went to 142 and beat up a bigger Oscar D. Then you might say, well Oscar aint no Pac & JMM is old. Jmm will then say, I took good care of my body too, and train my a$$ off every fight. Pac is also smaller, and a counter-puncher always beat a one-dimensional fighter. Let's get it on!
