  • Comments Thread For: Juan Manuel Marquez-David Diaz: Purse Dispute Details

BoxingScene.com had recently broken the news that former belt holder David Diaz "priced himself out" for the opportunity to fight WBA/WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez in a junior welterweight bout on July 16 in Mexico. Marquez wants to have an interim-fight before his third clash with Manny Pacquiao on November 12 in Las Vegas.

a tune up fight can be very dangerous. if something goes wrong then his big payday against the secret formula king will go out the window.

Diaz was the perfect opponent.. IMO Marquez should just anti up or stay at the negotiating table. Nothing is worth endangering his showdown with Pacquiao.

I was looking forward to that fight as well. Its a pity that Judah is fighting Khan now because he would have been a perfect opponent at 140 to get used to the weight and fight a fast south paw.
It wouldn't exactly have been a tune up, but instead a hard fight for a title that may well have made Marquez the first Mexican to win 4 belts in 4 weights.

Probably too much of a risk to take considering the amount of money he would lose out on against pac if he were to lose against Judah.

        His options are limited now.

So David Diaz, who has been irrelevant for 4 years and is best known for getting his arse kicked by Pacquiao wanted a quarter million to fight Marquez?
Get the F** out of here!!!!
Diaz please tell me where else would you get cash offers from?
You lost to Soto, you looked terrible against Jesus Chavez, and Frankel.
You're a joke, and its good that no one will see you in the ring again.

Stop the pointless tune up **** and just make the Pacquiao fight sooner. Use that $150,000 to hire top notch nutritionists and personal trainers as well as great sparring partners. Focus on adding weight effectively so you don't lose speed/mobility and get some bigger, speedy southpaws and put in more rounds in sparring.

Marquez gains nothing from fighting David Diaz, and Diaz was right to turn down the low ball offer. How does a Diaz fight at lightweight get you ready for Pacquiao?

Diaz was obviously expecting Marquez to hit him back with a 200k final offer, which is why he went to the media for sympathy when Marquez said he had outpriced himself.

Marquez is wasting his time with Diaz. He should be fighting a 140 contender to get himself ready. Someone like Kotelnik for example.

                marquez is wasting time.
ever since he scored a pac fight his mind hasn't been clear on this fight.

Honestly, I'm siding with Marquez on this one. I mean, Diaz is known for two fights, really. Morales and Pacquiao. Morales kept it close and Pacquiao beat him down.

So, he really should be happy that he's making 6 figures, in truth. It's ridiculous to assume that Diaz should be getting 250,000-300,000 which is what he was first asking for. What, in truth, has he done that is worth a quarter or a million dollars? I wouldn't give him more than 175,000.

It doesn't get you ready for Pac but it does keep you competitively busy (sparring alone can't compare) benefitting JMM from a mental point of view
