So he won't be considered a great fighter because his footwork isn't great? And what does Floyd have to do with this?

Hatton beats the 140 version of Cotto.

i agree, the undefeated prime Cotto gives Mayweather maybe a round or two worth of competitiveness. But thats only until Mayweather worked him out and either shut him out for a UD or KO'd Cotto late on

That said, he has been a warrior and fought the best he can. If he'd have won the Margarito fight then i believe we'd be talking about a much greater fighter, but the fact he took a knee in that fight damaged him

Maussa: undefeated, came back to win a championship
Quintana: undefeated, came back to win a championship
Judah: came back to win a championship
Mosley: became THE lineal welterweight champion after Cotto loss
N'dou: came back to win a championship
Clottey: likely to win a championship again
Foreman: undefeated, likely to win a championship again
Not to forget he beat former champions like Cesar Bazan & Corley.

Cotto has 1 legit loss on his record and that's to one of the greatest fighters of all-time. Considering he had no trainer, he didn't do all that badly and was definitely competitive for considerable parts of the fight. He wasn't shut-out like Trinidad was against Wright or Hopkins.

If you guys want to give Margarito - a convicted cheat - the benefit of the doubt then that's a real shame.

History will re-evaluate Cotto as a great from this era of the fight game.

He's a 3-weight world champion and has taken on the best possible challenges. Let's not forget that Hatton wanted NOTHING to do with Cotto @140: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/3670136.stm

And at 147, Cotto at his very best gives Mayweather a 50/50 fight.

Many consider Trinidad a great of the era but name me one fighter he beat who was better than the Mosely that Cotto beat?

As a neutral fan, I feel compelled to speak up for Cotto because it it wasn't for fighters like him, I wouldn't follow boxing.
also, clottey really won that fight, yuri foreman sucks, as does n'dou, judah could never beat top opposition, quintana's average, maussa sucks, i like paulie but he's a limited fighter and gave cotto a much more competitive fight than it should have been, torres best wins are against mike arnaoutis and kendall holt, enough said, the win against mosley (although i scored it a draw) was a very good win but no way will cotto be remembered as great, sorry

if his footwork was solid he might be considered great, that's what's holding him back, as for floyd the TS said it would be a 50/50 fight, i completely disagree so i threw that in there as well

This can be very well said about all fighters even the greats of today.

Pacquiao- Morales is past it, Barrera had problems, Diaz Clottey Solis 3K battery sucks, Mosley is old, Oscar is weight drained, Marquez won those fights, Larios and Ledwaba are average.

Mayweather- Nduo, Corley, Manfredy, Hernandez sucks, Mosley and Oscar is old, castillo won that fight, Corrales and Gatti could never beat top opposition, Zab Judah, Baldomir are you kidding?

Yet both of these fighters are considered great.

That wasn't even Cottos best weight and he still beats Rcky at 140. At 147, its not even close. Cotto destroys him.

Maybe in your world he wont but Cotto is a deffinate HOF. Maybe not a 1st ballot but he will be in. Sorry but thats the truth.

If Kotsa Tszyu is in the HOF with 33 total fights with a record of 31-2 (25 KO) and a 1-division champ....why wouldn't Cotto make it at 36-2 3-division champ and his losses coming to a Manny Pacquiao and a known cheater?
