My First Thread. My perception of 9/24/05 Fight Night

This is my first post on this forum and i am not going to be very original with my thread.
I will give you guys my view of both Cotto/Torres and Klitschko/Peter fights. Agree or disagree comments would be welcome!
Lets start with Cotto fight.Lets start with bad things. I may agree with people that it was Cotto's worst fight from a technical standpoint. He did not use his defense(which is quiet good, cause he can use both his feet and his shoulders very well in avoiding of being hit). He was exchanging way too much with a classic slugger and he was doing it way to early in a fight. He also seemed not to listen to his corner at all. Cotto is in a no way a one punch KO artist. He is a boxer-puncher with good defense and great pressuring skills. But in this fight he looked pretty much brain dead. He also looked a bit out of shape. IMO he became way to reckless and started to believe in his own hype. This night was a very good lesson for him. He should learn to analyze his opponent carefully and he should learn to be able to adopt his style to different opponents. Or learn how to keep opponents from adopting to his. Also he seriously gotta listen to his corner. They were saying right things to him.

To the good things. Cotto definately showed he got heart and survival instinct. He can also overpower his opponents physically
and mentally. His chin even though not granite is still above average cause when he went down he went down from a series of powerpunches from a guy with a good pop. He also showed decent movement when he was hurt.

To the summary. I hope Cotto will learn from this fight because in my view Torres was a gift from above to Cotto. If the opponent was a little faster or a little more durable or a little more powerful we might have seen another Wlad/Sanders fight.

The view on Klitschko/Peter will follow in my next post.

Nice post man but the thing you said about Cotto coming in out of shape it just seemed that way because he is way to big for 140 and he STRUGGLES to make weight for 140 after working extremely hard for 2 months before this fight.

Good analysis I agree with mostly all of it.

Indeed. He is way too big for Jr.Welterwight. But I might have been unclear. My thought was that he was unprepared for fighting Torres specifically. He was very well in a fight shape but not fight shape for Torres. I know he only had 2 weeks but he should have done more.

This is true but going up in weight makes it more likely to run into a guy with more power than Torres and a better finisher than him and he is no longer undefeated..... he must adjust and calm down and listen to his corner like you said before...hopefully this was a wake up call for him.

A lot was written about Wlad/Peter fight. And after I read some of your analysis I reconsidered writing a big ass post basically repeating what others have said. But I will add that Wlads biggest problem was not his chin but his coordination. A kd in a 10th round is a perfect example of it. This kd is similar to what he experienced in a TOS fight. He was offbalance and was cought pretty much flush. He went down. IMO coordination is his biggest flaw right now and he seriouslyy needs to work on it.

He needs a Rocky 3 style training montage with Apollo. He needs to learn how to dance. No seriously, this is my only major criticism of Wladimir. He is very comparible with Lennox in size and style however Lewis' defense was far superior. I suspect that Wlad's chin is similar to Lewis' but Wlad doesn't protect his like Lewis did. Lewis' chin was only checked through vast overconfidence and laziness. Then avenged.
