I agree when you say that CW have been around longer than Pacquiao because it-s a fact. However, here's my problem with your statement. Pacquiao won the title and is breaking records with that joke of a fight. That 8th division title is going to be almost impossible to accomplish in the future and in 50 years casual fans will see the big size advantage between Marg and Pacquiao and will think it was legit.

don't give so much in pac's 8th world title.

the 4th lineal title he won against hatton is the record that counts in my book.

and for the casual fans 50 years from now, who gives a shiiit? they are called casual fans for a reason

So now you see why Pacquiao's catchweight title fights are troublesome? We care about casual fans because those are the people that suppourt boxing. Look at the pack of casual fans Pacquiao brought to the sport filling forums with dumbass arguments.

I mentioned the 8th title not to seek whether you agreed or not, the point is that it made history and it's a bar that was set unfairly high for future boxers.

well, it made history, true but it is well documented that pac won the title with it being vacant against a fighter coming from a suspension at a weight class both fighters haven't been competing in.

it also doesn't mean that future fighters can't fight for championships at catchweights.

          in a historic sense, pac's 4 lineal titles >>>>>> pac's 6,7,8 whatever world titles.

same should apply to boxers 50 years from now where we'll probably have 58 weight classes and 12 legit belts per weight class

I agree with that, those 4 lineal titles are worth more than 8 different classes at least now because of that CW. Unfortunately a lot of people don't see it that way and just say "8 titles in 8 different classes, man Pacquiao is the ATG" even when they know that at least that 8th title was a joke. Yeah those could be ocassional fans or Pacquiao followers, but they're still important you know, they are the ones that pay to see boxing and that make the large majority of boxing fans.

You made a good point with your answer and yeah maybe in the future there are going to be more classes to make titles "legit" instead of all those catchweights. I just think that weight classes are made for a reason. There are several weight classes, I don't think there is a real need to create this catchweights other than trying to break some records.

It's well documented indeed but it doesn't make it less valid. There are weight clases for a reason just because catchweights exist, it doesn't make them right.

If lineal titles were more important to Pacquiao than the 8th why didn't Pacquiao attempt a 5th at light weight against Marquez. It's not like he can't make weight.

My point is that catchweights create complicated debates and we would be better off without them.
