Jones wouldn't fight on Saturday if he hadn't adjusted!

Roy Jones is one of the most intelligent boxers around. He knows what he can do and he knows what had happend to him last year. He is vunerable we now know and against glen Johnston he looked a shell. However, Roy knows this and i am pretty sure he wouldn't be entertaining this fight if he didn`t think 100% that he could win. I think he'll win on points but wouldn't bet on it. But what disturbs me is the amount of people writing him off. Despite the Johnston and Tarver fights Jones has been untouchable all through his career. Is it remotely possible that for one last night he can at least turn the clock back enough to out point Tarver?

For Jones to beat Tarver he needs to be busy and conservative. In other words he needs to jab. That’s something he used to do a lot more before he moved up in weight and could get away with lunging powershots vs slower lightheavies. If he tries that against Tarver he might eat another overhand left. So if you ask me Jones needs to dance and jab early then look to land power later on.

i think roy needs to jab like you sed jarlaxe, but i also would like to see combinations...tarver doesn't seem to throw when the other person is throwing ; he just covers up....and then throws when his opponent is done and on their way out. if roy can get his combinations off and get out with taking minimal damage it might be an easier night than sum expect

then he'll jab with his right hand...LOL!!! j/k...i never thought about that..but wouldn't that leave him open to tarver's overhand left. roy holds his hands real low so he would be more open to it

While I would normally agree with this, something outstanding on RJJ's record is what's brothering me.

That is the loss to Glen. We all are saying Roy wouldnt have taken this fight if he didn't know he could win and all that, but, I bet he thought he would own Glen.

When he stepped in the ring however, it was a differen't story.
Glen pressured him, and beat on him and after that KO loss to Tarver before hand, it really screwed him up.

Roy hasn't had a tune up, and he is coming right back in against Tarver who is coming off a win over Glenny.

Talk is talk, but imo, as much as I like roy, once he gets in with Antonio, who handed Roy his first KO loss and filled with confidence he is gonna be back to the Glen match.

Look for jones to be very gun shy, and try too much to rely on his diminishing reflex's. Antonio wins this one and seals the deal this time, for good.

Good post! I agree that all the factors areagainst Roy and common sense tells you that Tarver should KO him. But Roy seems realistic. He accepts the defeats and didn't make excuses. Its this ability to take reasonability that impresses me and is the reason why i pick him to win!
