    The Fat Lady Has Sung

First off I want to thank Roy for giving us all of those great moments in boxing history. I'm nearing 40 now and I can say that I've been watching boxing faithfully since I was 5. Roy for sure will forever stay in my memories as a great fighter. The 90's were awesome for Roy. But! Now we've come to the inevitable moment that many boxers face and that is when to hang up the gloves. I can remember crying as a little kid watching Muhammad Ali not being able to throw a punch being battered by Leon Spinks. That moment has come and gone for Roy.

Roy hasn't had an offense against a worthy opponent for some time. Roy hasn't had the stamina to fight a real fight for some time. Roy hasn't trained correctly since he fought and got KO'd by Tarver. The last time Roy had a real training session is when he hired Mickey Shilstone for John Ruiz and the Tarver fights. If you watch and pay attention to Roy's open training sessions they suck! His trainer just feeds into the ego that keeps him thinking that he still has got it. Alton Merkerson has only hurt Roy in his attempt to recapture the glory that has left him.

I believe that Roy suffered a physical and psychological injury in the two KO's from Tarver and Johnson. On top of that he took heavy shots in the Tarver 3 fight. In the Prince Ajamu fight he let him at times beat him on the ropes. Anthony Hishaw had some good shots on Roy. Calzaghe touched Roy several times. Danny Green, loaded wraps or not KO'd Roy. Bernard Hopkins landed good shots against Roy. All of this adds up to Roy not being able to take a good shot anymore.

Roy hasn't reinvented himself into a more conventional fighter and we shouldn't expect him to. Hopefully, he will realize that it is over and save us the misery of seeing him get hurt like Mildrick Taylor, Terry Norris, Greg Page, and Gerald McClellan.

By the way, look at Roy's abs. Have we ever seen him look this out of shape?
