A person would only be at risk for std if he or she is sexually promiscuous. And that's the point for taking a stand against condoms - because they promote sexual promiscuity.

supposedly we are supposed to have separation of church and state in the USA and Australia, yet no one can seem to get elected (especially in your country) without some overt display of religion.

I'm religious (not a great deal) but preaching abstinence is foolhardy and it doesn't work. Better to preach SAFE SEX. Sex is a biological imperative and you can't stop people from doing it....GOD made it feel so good so the human race could multiply and continue to exist....abstinence when you really think about it is AGAINST GOD!!!!

What about sex with minors or with family members, do you support that too? What differentiates that from having sex with other people?

Human beings come up with rules in order to promote social harmony and progress. Sometimes those rules are expressed as laws and other times as religious beliefs. Without rules to restrict human behavior and other biological imperatives to some extent, we would still be eating other people's flesh because it just tastes too good or taking a dump in public anytime we feel like it.
