    Cleverly vs Bellew confirmed.

    Clev-Bellew confirmed

Liverpool's unbeaten Commonwealth champion Tony Bellew has stepped into the breach left by Juergen Braehmer and will fight Nathan Cleverly for the WBO light-heavyweight title on Saturday night at London's O2 Arena.

German Braehmer, now the former champion, failed to arrive in the UK today and is reported to be blaming a cut sustained in training for his no show. Seeing as the PPV card only had two decent level competitive matches on it, the loss of the headliner was a major blow.

BoxRec poster Tony Bellew, 28, publicised his willingness to save the day by starting a thread on BoxRec's British forum at 4.06pm entitled 'I WANT THE FIGHT!!!'. He was immediately greeted by a rush of approval and well wishers.

Hours later it seems the likeable ****er, known by most in the trade by his nickname 'Bomber', has got his wish.

Normally, a boxer in Bellew's weight division would walk around at least a stone over his fighting weight. However, Bellew has told Terry Dooley of Boxing Scene that he was only six and a half pounds away from the 175lbs limit this morning.

Bellew is a typical puncher - heavy-handed but fragile, having been decked and in serious trouble against Ovill McKenzie, who he is scheduled to meet in a rematch for his Commonwealth title in July.

Fortunately for all concerned, not that it ever really appears high on the list of governing bodies when sanctioning fees are a consideration, Bellew is eligible for a shot at the WBO belt, seeing as he was listed at number 14 in their most recent rankings.

Bellew and Cleverly share the same promoter which must have meant the fight was much easier to make, especially so given his positive relationship with the WBO. The fight is now even more intriguing for British fight fans. Could it be all for the best that Braehmer didn't show up? Funny how things work out.
