Comments Thread For: Gennady Golovkin Eyes Daniel Geale For Fall Unification

The team behind WBA standard middleweight champ Gennady Golovkin have offered newly crowned IBF king Daniel Geale a substantial payday for a unification fight. Golovkin must of course win his upcoming defense against Kassim Ouma, scheduled for June 17, but his promotional team is claiming that he will be ready for a showdown against Geale by September in Kazakhstan. The story first appeared on the website of Golovkins controversial German matchmaker Mario Pokowietz, whom the writer often quotes.

Lets say that the WBA actually orders Hassam N'Jikam to fight Golovkin or be stripped of his interim title and at the same time allows Golovkin to defend his title against first Ouma and then Geale in a unification, before taking on N'Jikam, then the WBA is truly a joke.

But it doesn't make sense. My guess is that the offer to Geale is a PR-stunt more that anything. And please note that no exact amount for the Geale offer is mentioned.

The WBA already order Ndam vs Golovkin, Golovking might get stripped.

But Degale is a better opponent than Ndam, and The guy that should be figjting Golovking is Sturm!

Seriously, what is the difference if Golovkin gets stripped for fighting Geale? There are THREE EFFING WBA CHAMPIONS. So he is one of three belt holders for one of four alphabet organizations. So effing what? Strum is never going to fight him so he will never be the unified WBA champion. So he might as well fight Geale or Pirog or the real middleweight champion, Martinez, and dump the partial WBA belt.
And what the eff is the WBA STANDARD Champion. Never heard of that bull**** title

I can rationalize an "interim champion" in the case that the "regular champion" has sustained an injury that keeps him out the of the ring for prolonged period of time and eventually the "reg" fights the "interim." But for a sanctioning body to have 3 ****ing "champions" in one weight division so absurd it's laughable...

However, I guess it makes $ense financially because the organization collects fees on the world title fights it sanctions. So I guess it's triple the fees in the case of the WBA mw champion(s)..

Ouma's going to wipe the floor with him anyway so we won't need to worry.
