He needs to stop holding so much.
Watching him last night, I was very impressed with his defense, movement, speed, and even his power. Altogether, he is a very well rounded fighter and is technically proficient in every area.
Yes, I can understand that as a warrior he likes to get drawn into scrappy battles, and use his inside game to rough up his opponents, but the holding takes away from his game rather than adding to it.
For instance, whenever Abraham jumped in and swung for the fences, Ward ducked and held at every opportunity. Against a wild swinger like Abraham, you would expect a fighter with the speed and timing of Ward to take a step back, or to the side, and hit him with a counter. While he did do this at times, the holding dominated the match-up and turned what could have been an exciting fight into a mediocre battle.
Despite this, I like Ward. He's strong, intelligent, and an awesome fighter. I just wish he would leave his Ricky Hatton impression at home and put his more than abundant skills into use. He doesn't need to hold when he has an arsenal as deadly as his.
Looking forward to seeing him in the final.
