First off I have to tip my hat to Wladimir Klitschko. He did everything he had to do to survive the walking tank he had been thrust into the ring with. He jabbed well, he threw sharp hooks and crisp straight right hands, and he moved to the side, NOT directly back like a good fighter. He also knew when and how to inititate a clinch (to throw Sam's rhythm and off and stop his momentum) and when to break it off before the ref became irritated. To be honest, if not for the illegal rabbit punching by Sam's part, the fight would look very one sided on the scorecards.
Also, he fought a very physical fight on the inside with a powerful young man as well as using constant movement and he was able to do this for a full 12 rounds. At his size, that is very respectable. I think we can safely say the stamina kinks have been worked out.
As for Peter, he displayed quite a chin in this fight. Wladimir has the best right hand since a young Lennox Lewis, and he caught Sam flush with it several times, only hurting him somewhat late in the fight when he was exhausted. His stamina needs work. Workrate needs to improve. Perhaps paramount to all these other things is straight punching. Where was it tonight? Not in Samuel Peter's aresenal, and that needs to change.
But he has power, he has strength, and he has a chin. I would still pick him over most of the guys out there, and he's only going to improve at 25 years of age.
Great fight though. I was watching it in a room with some girls who didn't know anything about boxing and they were all cheering Peter on with me. He's very likeable on top of everything else. My sig is staying. Samuel Peter is the goods; he just needs to mature. Give him three years and he'll be the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.
Good post. I'm agreeing with you on most of the points.
This setback came at the right time for Sam Peter. It doesn't hurt his career too much but showed him exactly on what he has to work if he wants to be a real force and a recognized champion.
Among a lot of other things Peter has to improve his upper body moveing. He has the power to knock out any opponent he faces but at some stage he will have to win rounds. You can't get hit all night and expect to win on the scorecards. If he would learn to move from side to side while walking forward and building pressure he'd be in a better position defensivly and could throw his hooks on better angles.
That's another thing Peter will have to work on. If he doesn't like to punch straight he should at least create some angle on his hooks. That being said he definitly needs sth. that looks like a jab. Just to set up and get a feeling for the range. He will never be the fighter his physical abilities could produce if he doesn't get used to set up his punches instead of just swinging wildly anytime he gets close to his opponent.
Last thing that I'll mention (of course there are lots of others) is that he'll need a slight change of attitude. He shouldn't throw every punch with the intention of knocking his opponent out immediatly. One reason he's relativly slow and telegraphs his punches is that he's throwing punches with all the power he has. Sometimes it's more helpfull to reduce the power in order to get more speed. Instead of loading up and swinging from northpole to southpole he should start throwing shorter and more precise hooks to set up and score. Once he connects he can still **** away.

I agree but the thing with Peter that makes him so exciting is that he throws every punch with all his power. Do you want him to entertain or do you want him to win? I want him to entertain with knockouts!

I want him to fullfill his potential. That'd be more entertaining for me.
I rather watch Joe Frazier going 15 rounds with Ali than a 1st round KO highlight clip.
Now I know that there are lots of people who watch the sport because of the KOs and it's great if they can enjoy themselves. But I prefer a good fight with good athletes that goes the distance over any big KO win.
