If they held a Miguel Cotto vs. Sergio Martinez fight at Madison Square Garden would it attract much mainstream attention?

Cotto's a huge sell no matter who he faces at MSG. This would do good ticket sales for sure. Would it have blockbuster PPV sales? Not really.

the ONLY reason this fight might happen is cuz jr is mexican and the mexicans will support and buy it. it sucks though cuz sergio is way better but idk, the argentinian people are like lost or something. dude gets no support from them.

Cotto has proven he can sell out MSG with 18k + no matter who the opponent is really and I think this fight would get real solid PPV Buys both can make over $6-7 million without a problem I believe.

            The problem is this:

-It wouldn't do great PPV numbers

            -Cotto would lose lopsidedly

Arum is not going to match Cotto with a guy who's both not a draw and will destroy Cotto, because Cotto is a moneymaker with at least a few more PPVs left in him. That's not a knock on Cotto, but Arum aint letting him go anywhere near Martinez and he knows it.

more ppv buys if its vs chavez cuz the mexicans will support him more then the argentinians would support sergio. and thats so sad.

Very true but I can see Cotto vs. Chavez doing extremely well financially but in all honesty I see Cotto having an easy night and just pounding Chavez to the body. As a true fan I want to see Cotto vs. Martinez but $$$$ dictates everything so we will most likely get Cotto vs. Chavez in the fall.

I think this fight can happen but not for a little while I can see Chavez knocking out Zbik and Sergio Martinez is fighting on HBO October 1st and winning that fight. I can see Cotto fighting Chavez in the fall and winning and than possibly a Martinez vs. Cotto fight.

Cotto still brings in big $$$ for Top Rank and that is why Arum is being so cautious he knows Cotto has a very big following and wants to squeeze out as much $$$$ from Cotto as he can before his career is done.

Cotto has made crazy money over the years in ticket sales in NYC.
