I remember him saying he'll be defending his lightweight titles this summer before Pacquiao.

You've been a member of this site for almost six years, and you've never even heard of Terry Norris? Really?

De La Hoya would have smashed Norris to bits at that point. He would have completely destroyed him in a complete mismatch and caused even further damage to the brain of Norris. He's fortunate that it never took place.

This is a good fight for Marquez since Diaz is a southpaw. This is a good fight for Marquez to get used to the higher weight he will be fighting at against with Pacquiao. Like someone said in another thread, Marquez should hire a conditioning coach so that he can put on the weight effectively.

did someone on this site actually say they never heard of Terry Norris? Is that a joke? the guy was only one of the top lb 4 lb fighters in the early to mid '90s.
I guess that's why u get some of the comments on this site that u get - some people who post on these blogs really don't know much about boxing

I swear Marquez and his managers are the biggest idiots in Boxing history

Did they learn nothing from the Chris John fiasco? This is a pointless fight with no perceivable purpose. If they need a tuneup, just hire great sparring partners, especially ones that can prepare you for Pacquiao... which Diaz will not. That would be a better prep for Ortiz.

Why risk losing or injury or a bad fight that will not make people want to pay to see you fight?

They should just scrap this nonsense and make Pac-Marquez earlier in the year, maybe in Aug or Sept.

I said that and I stand by it. His focus should be 100% on Pacquiao, not this Diaz distraction. Hire great sparring partners and get a conditioning coach to help him put on lean muscle instead of the usual water weight. Come in at 140-142 and rehydrate to the usual 145, that way he can retain speed and hopefully add strength.

Does anyone know why this fight is even a bit necessary?

LOL @ not knowing who Terry Norris is. I rarely post and have lurked on here many years, but I always wondered why some of the posts on here seemed to lack a general understanding of the sport. Guess know we know

For those who don't know who Terry Norris is, all I can say is: you should be ashamed of calling yourself a boxing fan!! Not only Terrible Terry gave a beating to a decadent Sugar Ray Leonard but also landed one of the most brutal punches I have ever seen against John Mugabi. Felix Trinidad hid from this man for years until Julian Jackson KO'd him and afterwards Mullings, ending Norris's career. He was a brutal puncher but lacked chin, but exciting to watch and very fast and accurate. Youtube the guy, you won't regret it, fake boxing fans...
