why is GBP interested in putting JMM as a welter?

he's going to WW to fight Pac anyways and there are no other big money fights out there to match the money at the lower weights. With that being said, Im not so sure that they could sell that fight for that much either

The LA TIMES is reporting that Schaefer will match the 5million offer and HBO will get on board to stage Marquez vs Ortiz in SEPT.

that still doesn't 'financially' match Pac-JMM package, there is also the percentage of PPV sale, (how are they going to match that).

honestly IMO this is what I would do

if JMM ends up with TR

offer a JMM vs Bradley fight (assuming he doesn't sign with GBP) in July with the winner to fight Manny in November. That's two big fights and a chance at 5 division titles (140 with Bradley and 147ish with Pacquiao)

if he ends up back with Golden Boy

offer him a shot at Maidana then a chance at Ortiz. Two not as big fights but at least is a guaranteed salary against arguably easier competition and it's still a shot at 5 division titles (Maidana at 140 and Ortiz at 147)

Besides that, why would Marquez choose Ortiz over Pacquiao. A win over Pacquiao is history, a win over Ortiz is nothing special in terms of history.

Because JMM wants to fight Pac at WW, but GBP has the option to match the offer. So they want to match and throw him in with Ortiz.

Why are they trying to match weights? All Marquez needs is a 4th division title. Last time I check, he hasn't even conquered 140, so Judah or Khan (if Bradley's a lost cause) would be good. Not sure if Judah's worth giving Marquez $5Mill but he's a PPV name.

I think if GBP matches the offer it blocks the Pac fight.
