  • Tonight's fight: Why it's so exciting...

... I'm wetting myself for RJJ-Tarver III, but I can see three outcomes of that: a repeat of the second, a mirror opposite of the second (ie. Roy lays out Tarver in quick fashion) or (the most likely, I think) a repeat of the first fight, with Roy scraping a lucky points win. The point is, I can SEE all the probabilities and scenarios. I know what will likely happen.

But Peter-Klitschko? Wow. I've got 15m on the superior skills of Wlad, but there are so many other possibilities. Maybe his chin really is as bad as they say and he's disposed of in seconds. Maybe his stamina will blow out at a vital moment. For all we know, Peter might not be able to take a punch (he was reportedly stunned by Audley Harrison in the ams, before Harrison even began to develop the so-so punching power he has today) and get KOed in the first minute.

It could be a real up-and-downer, with both off the canvas multiple times. It might be a war. It might (though somehow I doubt it) be a real dull fest. Claude Abrams, the respected editor of UK magazine Boxing News, has Wlad picking Peter apart behind the jab constantly to end it by the seventh.

The thing... we don't KNOW what will happen. Exciting, ain't it?

    hmm

If Roy wins, there will be no luck involved.

As for tonight's fight, I am also very excited. I sure hope it doesn't turn out to be a bore or a huge letdown in some way. Peter is the favorite but just barely. The odds reflect the uncertainty of this fight.

I have just re-watched the fights of Wladimir with Purity, Pannel, Sanders, and Brewster. In all these fights he was knocked-down.

I think in all these cases the problems for Wlad came from a very poor defense=carelesness. He really drops hands so much when he gets tired or careless. And with hands down, nobody could really take a punch, except for a concrete wall perhaps.

I agree with you with Jones Vs tarver. i think Roy will nick a points win where it could have gone either way but Roy scraps through.

Yeah, this fight is exciting as hell. Only thing that worries me is Peter's hunger. I'm worried Peter's going to land one of his hard looping punches, and Wlad will get knocked down. If Wlad gets knocked down, IMO losing is inevitable.

Even on paper this fight is really hard to call, but we'll see.

Purity knocked him down twice (the first KD was not official). Shortly after the second KD, Zdunek stopped the fight. It would have been a brutal KO, if he had not done so.

Purity fight reminded me the Brewster fight very much.

Yes, he knocked down Wlad in the 1st round. Wlad overcame the KD and then KOed Pannel in the 2nd round.
