'Mayweather turned down R339m to fight Pacquiao in SA'

Floyd Mayweather allegedly turned down $50-million (nearly R339-million) to fight Manny Pacquiao in South Africa, a bout that could set records for the biggest payday in ring history.

Pacquiao's adviser Michael Konez told the New York Times that Pretty Boy had rejected an offer of half of $100-million to face Pacman in South Africa.

Bruce Trampler, matchmaker for Pacquiao's promoter Top Rank, believes the figure quoted by Konez "could be inflated", but added that if the two should ever meet, they would share the biggest payday in boxing history.

Earlier this year Mayweather was said to be considering a fight in South Africa in July, but he and Pacquiao are far from agreeing terms.

Both men have fought SA boxers, Pacquiao knocking out Lehlohonolo Ledwaba in 2001 and Mayweather stopping Phillip Ndou in 2003.
